leaf spring install problem
« on: January 24, 2007 - 05:49:26 PM »
I have new espo springs for an e body  stock ride hight XHD springs. The front hangers only go one way so there correct and new stock shackels.  The springs are 53 1/4  inches center to center. As you can see in the pic the dont seem long enough. Even if you try to jack them up like weight would be on the car.  see pics.  ???? whats wrong?

they are not made for an A body or a SS spring are they , those are 2" shorter
 the B & E body measurement is 58"
 the A body is 54"

here is there email reply.

The number on the end of the springs is the last three digits of your order number.  This is how we signify which spring is for which order.  To install the springs, Bolt the spring to the front hanger and then bolt the hanger to the frame.  Then bolt the spring to the axle.  This way you can use a jack to push on the axle to put weight pressure on the spring so that it will reach the rear shackle area.  Many times you cannot just put a spring up in place and bolt it in...the arch makes it necessary to compress the spring some to install it.  This will essentially lengthen the spring if you are measuring straight across.  If you have any other questions, please feel free to email again.  I've checked the specs on the springs and they are correct for your car.

Do you have the spring bolted around the axle yet? When you do, it will flatten out, and move back.

I bought 2 sets from them over the last couple years and they fit ok. I didn't have to put any weight on them to install them???   :clueless:

I bought a set of 1" over stock for my '74 last summer they were about the same way as yours, but I installed one side at a time and it worked out ok except the car set too high. Had to remove the short leaf on bottom and the height is just right and the ride is great.  What are the part #s. Mine were L-274-78-615.    Ricky

I got them in.  The p/n I dont remember it was XHD for an ebody from springs and things.  with everything in and the car jacked from the centerr of the rear axle they seem ok.  Just havent ever had that problem.
