Sad Sad day
« on: January 25, 2007 - 10:42:25 AM »
Yesterday morning around 6:00am my friends body shop burned to the ground. Fortunately it was before anyone arrived and no one was hurt. His house is located about 100 yards away and he heard an explosion that obviously was caused by the fire inside the shop. A total loss. About a year and a half ago he had just added on, nearly doubling his work area. And just a few weeks ago had installed a new $10,000.00 computer paint matching/mixing system. He ran to the shop in an attempt to possibly move a couple cars but the heat and smoke was too intense. Lost: 2 Comeros (yrs ?), and a 65 GTO vert. All power was turned off except for the heating system, alarm system, and two fridges. in the shop. The state fire marshall will be there today to do an investagation. Ray is a friend that goes back to our little league days, and he restored our Charger and Challenger, he has a great talent for body and paint work. Whenever he'd stop at a car show we were at he always said the Challenger's paint was one of his prized works, and he would describe the Charger (with a laugh) as an over ripe bananna (FY1).  Truly, today I'm sick over this loss to my good friend. He's just a couple years younger than me, will he atempt to rebuild? I sure hope so, but we all know how insurance companies can sometimes be to deal with.

That sounds just aweful.  My heart sank when I was read that it was a body shop.  I dont care what make the cars are, like NZ said, its someone's pride and joy.  Hopefully they didnt have too much sentimental value.  It makes me sick.  Now I'm sad for the rest of the day.   :sadwavey:

I am a fire investigator and can only offer that thank goodness no one was hurt and he has insurance. Too bad about the loss,  especially the cars that cannot be replaced.  :o

What a horrible way to start the day!  Were they his cars or customer's cars?  I'm sure he was already having a horrible day, but to have to call the owners of the cars would be just awful!

I hope the best for him.  I hope he gets everything up and running soon.

I also hope he considers some or heat detectors and a sprinkler system...could save everything

That's aweful, Jim.  Hopefully his insurance company will cover everything as expected and not give him any grief over it.  Geez, first my neighbor/bodyman's house, now your friend's shop...fire damages are really aweful.
