super six?
« on: January 25, 2007 - 02:40:24 PM »
My car was originally a "C" code engine car, which decodes out to "special order 6 cylinder"  I've also heard of something called the Dodge "super six" was wondering what it was if it even exists and what the detailed information on a "C" engine code 71 challenger meant?

Ahhh yes, the good old "Super Six". I had one on my 79 Duster. All it was, was a slant 6, with a 2 barrel carb. I think they started doing that in the late 70's, so it would not have been on your car.

I was watching American Muscle Car the other day and they said there was a slant six in the mid 60's or so that put out 275 hp.

Was this a factory option? This is news to me, but I could only see 275HP out of a slant if it was modified greatly.

The C coded special order /6 (1968-69) was an engine that was put into New York City Police cars.

The C coded /6 was 225ci/145hp(1970-71), 110hp(1972) or 105hp(1973-74) all with 1-bbl.  The super six was first released in 1978.

HyperPak (a Mopar aftermarket package with a four-barrel carb) raised the US HP to 196 (on the 225).
