Driving bearable?
« on: January 25, 2007 - 11:43:58 PM »
I am 95% sure that my car will be ready for Carlisle this year as paint is gonna fly next week Wednesday.  Whats the drive like from western Michigan?  I know its somewhere around 620 miles, my car is a 440 4-spd with 3.21 gears, im trying to figure out how much money i need to set aside for fuel and food and registration etc etc etc odds and ends of the trip.  Anyone know how I could get a rough guesstimate the fuel economy?

Not knowing your level of 440, I'd figure around 10mpg @ 620 mile = 4 fuel ups there, 4 fuel ups back and 1/2 tank for cruise @ 270 a gallon premium  140 gallons x 2.70 a gallon, should be semi close. some members can squeeze 12-16 mpg going under 70, so that will change the fuel consumption. I would think 1200 for food travel and motel will be a little on the tight side. 1400 would give you a comfortable cushion.

This is just an example, and it's late, so I could be off a bit :2thumbs: :burnout: but think of all the fun

Honestly with that set up and distance I'd suggest towing there and driving after you get there. 4C can fill ya in on distance and route, give him a shout...............looking forward to meeting ya and seeing your car.  :2thumbs:

This is our truck and trailer. In '05 we trailered thr T/A to Carlisle from Fargo, ND. We spent 1K on gas but we also stayed 2 weeks in Pa doing site seeing. We stayed in the same Motel and did day trips. I cannot tell you exactly how much for just the trip out and back. This year we intend to drive the PT Cruiser. We will be bringing the T/A for the 40Th reunion in '10.

I will definitely be headed out for the show and if memory serves me correct, you're around the Grand Rapids area so  620 is a pretty good estimate as it is exactly 500 for me and you're another 100-120 from here!  We all leave on Thursday from Michigan and meet up with other members along the way!  Its a great time traveling down the highway with a bunch of Mopars and travel time is somewhere between 8 and 9 hours.  I will be trailering my car out as my 3.55's are ok on the highway but not 9 hours worth!  I'm hoping ROMI and you will hook up for the journey . . . that would be very cool!   I'm not planning on coming back until Monday morning but that could change if no one else wants to stay.  We'll figure out more and time grows closer!

Man, I really want to go but I have to say, if Al's estimate of $1200 is even close then I'm already dead in the water.

(man I gotta think harder.... this is killin me !)

It really depends on gas prices for premium. I noticed today regular fuel at 1.89 and premium at 2.02 around here. If the cost of fuel drops down where your at, it will cost you a lot less then what was said :2thumbs:

As I said, I will be trailering my car out so I figure $250 in gas should cover it.  $1200 just seemed alittle high to me.   :clueless:

Yes, driving to Carlisle is absolutely bearable ! You Americans are so lucky, you don't need a ship to go to Carlisle.
I did drive to Carlisle in 2003. It took a few days.... I started in Europe.... you should have seen the Carlisle-Guys at the entrance gate when they saw the European license plates....

This trip was more than a great experience and I would do it again right away.
