Ok, I am still confused here guys.
2 different consoles
One says made in 69. It is out of my 70 barracuda made in sept of 69 it's black and a 4 speed console. It has the seatbelt holder and the 4 holes for the wood grain. Now I know this is normal.
The tan console says 1970 on the bottom instead of 69. It has an ashtray in back instead of the belt holder. It also has only 4 holes.
These 2 consoles seem in appearance to be Identicle to a 4 speed console as far as the notch in the bottom for the boot fit.
This is something I don't understand.. I have 3 top plates, all 4 hole and wood grain. They are auto top plates not 4 speed. All 3 top plates fit the 70 (tan) console with the ashtray perfect. Not one of them fits my 69 console. Everything looks Identical. The 4 holes would line up perfect in either console, but will not slide all the way down flat on my 69 console.
And I still have the issue of the 4 hole and ashtray on the 70 tan one with the ashtray.
I went and got my black 72 auto console and installed it in the 74. It has the 5 hole, the ashtray, the side straps for the seat belt and everything is good there.
ANYBODY run across any type of differences with your consoles? being early or late 70, 4 speed or auto? I have no 4 speed top plat for my 69. It was damaged and unusable. So I have nothing to go by.
And another weird thing about my tan console is, it just says 70 on it. It doesn't say auto or manual. It has no other numbers to reference it with. It has never been painted or dyed or modified and appears to be a 4 speed console in design, with the 4 hole top plate and a rear ashtray. I do have like 5 or 6 70 challengers in my junkyard and I am assumeing this tan console came out of one of those cars. 2 of the cars had some kind of brown or tan interior, one had white interior, one has burnt orange. I just want to get my 69 cuda console working and figure out this oddball 70 tan console and if a challenger vs cuda had any slight differences I am not aware of.
