OT, radiator compatability
« on: January 30, 2007 - 07:12:33 PM »
Im getting real close to buying a 5.7 L Hemi to put in my '67 pickup.  What I need to know is if my old stock radiator will cool the hemi enough.  If not, is an OEM hemi radiator, or an aftermarket setup the best deal?

Second question, I heard that the '03 hemi's had problems.  Do I want to avoid these?  Someone want to back up this theory?  Thanks in advance,

Steve

any reasonably sized 22" rad for a 360 ci engine should cool the hemi as well

Thanks CP, but its a 318 in there.  I will have to go and measure to see how large it is.

Well, I measured my radiator, and the core was about 21 1/2".  Im assuming that is a 22" radiator on the outside.  Thanks again CP   :2thumbs:

some had a even smaller rad @ 18 " or so , your rad may need to be cleaned or recored , do you know how many row the core is now ?

Nope, I thought about it before, didnt remember to look when I measured.   :banghead:

I'll check again later

I know it could use a recore though, maybe an aftermarket would be cheaper?

hard to say , buying a 22" 3 row high efficiency core will eaily cool a stroker big block but the cores are $300 approx

I just checked, 2 row.  I will check with the local radiator guy to see how much it would cost to recore.  Thanks CP  :2thumbs:
