Cool thread.  Let me show my diverse musical tastes (...and my age):

First concert: Cheap Trick in 1978 (in my hometown in Illinois).
Best concert: A tie between REM ('Green' tour - 1989) and Dixie Chicks ('Top of the World' tour - 2003)
Honorable Mention for Best Concert: VanHalen ('1984' tour) and Aerosmith (both times I've seen them)

First album purchased: 'Frampton Comes Alive'  And I still have it, although I have not had a turntable in 20 years.
 ;D

I havnt seen many bands In my time, but the first I remember was a crowded house concert, when I was about 4. The first concert I actually properly went to (as opposed to being taken to) was Zed when i was about 12.
Since then I have seen INXS, steriogram, Sinate (formerly 8 foot sativa) and a bunch of local bogan bands that I dont remember the names of.

The best one would have been the one in the basement bar on newyears eve. It rained on and off all of that day, and me and my friend josh were setting up the PA system in the basement bar, when one of the bands drove up in a '74 chrysler valiant regal with a 360 4-bbl (Even tho ther are not exactly rare down here, you still dont see them often) and introduced themselves as Labretta Suede and the Motel Six. They were excellent, And I would love to see them play again some time. That same night a few bogan bands played, as well as a Ramones tribute band.

First concert was around '75 here in Huntsville AL before most of thier hits had been made. Their encore consisted of Beach Boys songs.
The best performance has to be circa late 70's
But the most fun I have ever had at a conert hands down was in the mid 80's

First concert: "A Day in the Garden", held on Max Yazgur's farm in Bethel, NY. (Some of you might remember the place for a little concert held there in 1969). Saw, amongst many others, Pete Townshend, who played an awesome 2-hour set. I was 10 years old.

Most Recent: Victor Wooten at 9:30 Club in DC. I also phoned in to the recent The Who tour (my dad was there, I was not). I called his cellphone so I could listen in.

First one was probably the Rolling Stones. The best I think was Yes in the round-about followed by Boston.

Daytona, I can relate to the regrets for sure - No Woodstock, but if I had been a little older and able to attend I would have probably been in Vietnam. Also, we have to think about some of the bands that we have seen that others will never get a chance to see - Original Lynrd Skynrd, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones (when they were younger), Mountain (with Felix Pappalardi), etc.

...I was playing some "Mountain" just a few weeks ago....really good....saw the "Stones" finally about 15 years ago.....they didn't have their depends on yet...

My first concert..Nov. 14 1974 at the Cow Palace in SFO, Deep Purple with ELO opening act. They were rookies then.
Most memorable, Day on the Green with Led Zeppelin, Rick Derringer and Johnny Winter.. Supposedly,it the very last concert ever in North America with all the original members of Led Zep. It was the day that Bill Grahams roadies fought with John Bonhams roadies and stalled the concert for over 2 hours. When they started, I was about 40 feet from the stage. Jimmy Page brought out the violin bow onto his guitar and started wailing super high pitched notes that were serious ear bleeders. My ears rang for 3 days after the concert. I have about 50% hearing loss now in my left ear. Other concerts concrtibuted to my hearing loss besides. I saw a lot of bands back in the 70's. I lived during the renaissanace of Rock and Roll and was heavily involved in it.  :smokin:

Thats why I refuse to go see any of the oldies now that are still touring (i.e. Stones, Who, etc.). The last time I did that was ELP and Jethro Tull at Merriweather. I was very disappointed by their performance since I can remember how they were in their prime. Kind of funny to see Kieth Emerson try to climb up onto his hammond organ now.

Although, I'll hang on to some of the intimate and closeup shows that I have seen. I seen Heart when they were promoting Dreamboat Annie at such a small place that I was about 10 feet away from Anne. We were talking with Nancy in between shows and she asked us to stay around for the second show. I saw Mountain and Aerosmith in a high school gym in glen burnie around Mekrunners place. Front row for J. Giles, legs hanging over into the orchestra pit for Emerson Lake and Palmer.

My first real concert was Def Leppard and Joan Jet when I was in 4th grade. I think I might have been to a christian concert before that. I went to se Def leppard and Journey this summer.6 years later. The first time was soooo much better. They weren't nearly as good this last time. The first time I saw them was inside in Bristol,TN 2nd time was outside in Charlotte,NC. I saw the Winter Jam tour a few weeks ago and rather enjoyed that. It was a christian tour with Jeremy Camp, Stephen Curtis Chapman, Hawk Nelson, Sanctus Real, and Newsong.

My first concert I was in the 9th grade and I went with not one, but two girls!!

Of course I was 14 so one of their Dad's had to drive us. :angelwings:

Oh yeah the question: 1st show: Uriah Heep and Suzie Quattro 1974. After that I went to dozens of top rock concerts so couldn't pick a best.

Still have all of my ticket stubs. Thinking of framing them in some sort of collage someday. :ylsuper:
