I have had so many customers come in with their own stall converters around 2000 RPM,get the tranny built and installed, drive it and it doesn't feel like any different than stock. Just to give you a heads up.

the Challenger stalls when put into gear.

I'm at a loss here, I understand that a higher stall speed converter will enhance performance based on many factors mentioned here BUT what does this have to do with a motor that stalls (I read dies) when put into gear?

Here is a link to Continental Torque Converters.  There is a short explanation of how they work.  BTW---I have a custom built 3800 Continental unit in the Beast.

Here's s link to how the 10" street converters are built:

TF, I really don't think the converter is the answer to your problem. I have seen some pretty radical engines idle down low enough and not die when put into gear without having really much of a stall. CHECK THE ENGINE OVER REAL GOOD FOR CORRECT TUNING. :2thumbs:

Like CP said, you have to match the cam to the converter, if you have a custom cam.

I'll admit I know notthing on this subject.  :dunno: But I'm learning from this post.  :grinyes: Is there anyway to know what your "stall" is, if you dont know what was in the car when you bought it?  :clueless:

Find your stall..

Left foot on the brake pedal, hard, very hard...
Right foot on the gas..

The stall RPM is the point where the engine abosutly can't go futher without the car moving..

Not that the car wont move at a lower RPM than the stall, but the stall is where yoy cant prevend it from moving..

Hope you understand my poor english.. :clueless:

True, but that is harsh on the drivetrain.

If you have a manual valve body, use high gear. Brakes on hard, put it to the floor for a few seconds, watch the tach.

And if not, that is not a very accurate test for stall because likely you'll break the tires loose. Yes?  ???

If you have to use low gear, yes it tends to want to spin the tires before you see "true" stall. :grinyes:

Stall as in Stall-out, die, stop running.

I got it inot gear this weekend... but you have to spin the tires to do it.

I still have to give it a lot of gas to keep it running...'I am starting to lend toward a good tune-up.  Got better after I put in a new fuel filter...plugs could help...etc.
