I can`t remember the pushrod length , 7.25 comes to mind , I can find out
Never heard of disassembling a lifter before installing it before

If you can find out for sure, that would be great.  I have seen everything from 7.49 to 7.500 to 7.513 to 7.515.  :clueless:

I thought it was a strange do disassemble the lifter, thanks for reassuring me.

I believe the stock push rod length should be 7.520, I would get a solid lifter and a adjustable push rod and measure the exact length you need. If you had your block decked and/or head milled that will change things..Vin....

oh no...not another size  :faint:

thanks for the info, but we do not have the adjustable pushrod... I wish we did.

My father ended up gettting some mopar lifters plus some new rockers and pushrods from Auto Zone.  He is putting it back together as I type this.

He is not good at waiting for info, so wish us the best.

Well he got it running with the new stuff, but it still continued with the ticking noise.  :banghead: :pullinghair: :stomp:

He was not a happy, to say the least.

So he took my adjustable rockers and decided to make them work....even though the pushrods rubbed the head a little.  And after checking and double checking and triple checking...guess what happened...they still made noise until the engine heated up.   :banghead: :pullinghair: :stomp: :swear:

So we took the car for a drive and made sure it got hot, but there was still a very very faint ticking noise.

Now he is to the point where he said that he will just run it until something breaks.

The real test will be when he cranks it on Sunday after it has time to cool down.  Wish us the best.

Well.......you guessed it......it still rattled.   :walkaway:

Well he wanted me to double check that he adjusted the rockers correctly.  So from your experience, what is the easiest way (actual steps) to adjust the rockers?

Well my father could not solve the lifter noise problem, until now.

We hooked up a second oil pressure gauge at another point on the motor and I rode along as he took it for a short drive.  Something very odd was happening, the oil pressure would start to decrease when we accelerated and then start to rise.   :22yikes:  At this point, we knew there was a problem.

So he pulled the motor and started to disassemble it, at which point he found that there was a plug missing under the 90-degree oil filter adaptor.   :banghead:  Apparently the oil pump had enough pressure to pump the oil but it was not enough.

My father took off the rear main cap and found out that the crank journals are badly worn.   :pullinghair:

Well, he is now bound and determined to fix the engine instead of taking mine, even though I wish he would just take mine.  So I guess my 440 plans will just wait until the 360 is tired.   :walkaway:

Jacksboy's , sorry to here about your oil pressure problems. But at least you caught the problem before you exploded it. Just get it all apart and do all your checks and get that thing back together...

Glad the oil pressure problem was finally correctly diagnosed.  That's what I was thinking all along and I posted that on Feb 1st.  Let us know how it does after the rebuild........      :cooldancing:

You were right, but it was hard to tell that the oil pressure was the problem because it was still reading 60 psi when it was cold.    :banghead:  I guess that the high vloume oil pump really moves some oil.  Who knew?
