A Real Dilemna - Any suggestions ???
« on: February 03, 2007 - 06:46:41 PM »
Much to my surprise when I was restoring the interior the passenger door panel is a different grain then the driver's side. I went ahead and restored it anyway until I figure out what a man is to do. So far I am playing hell finding just one door panel and I would prefer to have original. Also, if I buy I am going to have to buy both sides and then have nothing to do with the second one. The passenger side panel doesn't match any of the other panels in fact. It is a very smooth texture - Any ideas what this may have come off of ??? Of course if I need to I will pull it off to get numbers and if I do what am I looking for ???

so let me guess it is a White panel ?
if so the top surface of the panel has probab;y deteriorated to the point where it was easier to smooth the surface down

White panels get chalky and it was probably sanded down and redyed.

Rick,

My car originally had white panels, painted black. It was the driver's side that took abuse. Apparently the noodle-head drove with his arm out the window.  :stomp: The grain was really messed up. I bought some used panels on E-Bay, and have been happy ever since.  It doesn't matter what color you buy, you can dye them with the SEM stuff. I went with the after-market panels too... I suggest not doing this if you can help it.  :grinyes: Hard plastic was all they were. Had to work to get them to fit too.  :eek7:
