i know this might sound odd but who has a 383 and wouldnt trade it for the world. sometimes i get the feeling (with all the die hard 440, 426, and 340 guys and gals out there) that my little 383 is kinda shamefull. then i stomp the gas and feel that sh*t and get, and instantly i feel better. im just a 383 fan and wanted to see how many others there are out there

Hmm, can we extend it to all B blocks? are we talking built up? and most importantly does it have to be stock stroke?:naughty: My favorite engines are stroked 400s. I like 383s as well, but the 400 has it beat on bore so I prefer it. I dont think that I would choose any of the 'mainstream' engines if I needed to build an engine.

if it makes you feel better im ripping the 440 out and throwing in a 383.  Just because the 440 is gonna get redone again but still.

Had a 383 Dart and it went like a raped ape. 400's were great but too late in the game (came with smog stuff) to get any recognition(same with 360s). We could say the same for the 318 as the 383. Both were dependable and fun to drive but never got the recognition of a 340 or 440 and never really received any high performance factroy upgrades (6 pak, 4 barrell on many, good heads etc) :2cents:

but doesnt the 383 magnum have the 440 heads and exhaust manifolds? I was also told that the 383 could rev higher than the 440 because it has the stroke of a small block. i have reved mine up to about 6500 and not had any problems and was told that the 440 couldnt do that, is that wrong? I just really enjoy my 383 and get very irratated when people walk by and say "oh, its just a 383 car" it will still  :burnout:

I gots a wee eighty three.  I love the thing too.  I just smirk when someone says, "oh its just a 383"  I dont let it bother me.  My car is matching numbers, but if it wasnt, I would keep it in there anyways.

There is an article online on mopar muscle magazine's site where with a new carb, intake, headers the 383 can put out over 400 hp.  Not too bad for just bolt ons.

To answer your question, YES I love my 383  :woo:

383, the blue collar worker of the big blocks like the 318 is of the small blocks. I have a 383 magnum (#'s matching) in my 70 Charger 4 speed, a magnum but the bottom end is bone stock, it does have an upgraded cam, and it will rock ya back. Shortly after I got the car (before the cam change) I had three other guys with me and smoked the tires in 1st and barked them real good in 2nd, in fact I was up to 85 in second before I shifted. Now the 383 can't compare to a 440 when it comes to torque, but she will pull higher rpm's quicker. I've never had a 440 until a couple years ago, overall it is a monster, but my lack of expeience with it won't really allow me to compare any further. But the 383 does take a bad rap it dosent deserve. I have a feeling a 383 stroked with two 4's will end up in this lil Dart I just got.....??

Now I'll probobly get myself in trouble here. First I've never had a 340 and as I just said just recently owned a 440, but I think a big part of the popularity and mystique around those motors are the car models they were available in, such as, Demons and Darts and Dusters (340)---- Roadrunners, Cudas, GTX, Chargers----, now obviously you could get the 318 and the 383 in most of these models, but the attention getters had the 340 and 440 engines because these were the "sports" models.  Hey, I've had even Mopars guys hear my Charger run/idle at car shows, and with the hood down a few have even commented, "That's a sweet sounding 440 buddy". I just wait until they walk away, then raise the hood.   :roflsmiley:
