Re arc springs or adjustable spring hanger?
« on: February 07, 2007 - 01:26:55 PM »
I bought some ebody HD springs.  Once installed they really don't have any height over the ones I replaced.  So my question is this;
1. Should I re arc these springs to add about 1.5"
or
2. Should I replace the front spring hanger with an adjustable unit.

What would be better to do as far as keeping spring integrity and keeping driveline angles correct?

All the front spring hangers I have seen are designed to replicate original height or lower it, so it won't acheive your desired increase in ride height by changing them.

What a lot of people seem to forget is that the XHD springs packs are desigend to replicate the factory ride height. They aren't designed to lift the rear of the car. Their real advantage in tehse spring over old, used springs is not in height increases so much as it is in torque control. Mopar springs are designed and installed to have very little to no arch in them in their installed height.

The mopar Super Stock spring set is designed to lift the rear 2-4" over stock, however. This design is to allow greaert leverage against the car to plant the tires harder during full power launches.

If it is a particular stance you are after, you could turn the front torsion bars down. Dropping the nose 1-2" inches does not impact ride quality much at all and has the added benefit of lower the center of gravity height. You also could look at mixing tires sizes like the AAR/TA models did. I would only re-arc the springs if you feel lowering the front or changing tires sizes isn't the way you want to go. Adding 1-2" isn't going to hurt the angles in the driveline if you do re-arc the springs.

A spring re-arc it will be.  I don't want to drop the nose as the oil pan will then turn into a skid plate  :scared:

I'm just curious how much re-arching will cost. The leaf springs from Espo can be had with a 1", or 2" over stock height lift. The prices aren't bad either. I went with 2" over. springsnthings.com

It depends greatly upon your location. Where I'm at it used to cost $50 per spring. Last time I checked they were asking $150 per spring. For that price I could get new springs, so I haven't had a set re-arched in a decade. Some places are still reasonable. However, be very specific about what you want when talking to them. I've heard of places who consider re-arching springs to be slapping on a highy cambered overload spring and then clamping it all together, getting the arch but greatly increasing your spring rate. Great if you have a plow, lousy if you want your car to ride worth a hill of beans.

I have a 73 and 74 Challenger. I was thinking of SS Springs. Do I have to change the forward hangers like the B-Bodies????
Thanks

SS springs are made for the A body & use the same lengths so yes the front hangers are different for both the B & E body

CP, I know the B-Body hanger is 2" longer with SS.
Do I have to change the hanger in my Challenger if I go to SS??
I didn't see a part number in Mopar for the SS hangers for the E Bodies..

Do you have any pics of that?  The front segment of the SS spring is 2 inches shorter then the E-bod spring
