CARB QUESTION AGAIN
« on: February 07, 2007 - 08:39:13 PM »
Hey all,
What metering rods and jets do i need to put into my 440 carter AVS 750CFM to make it flow more like the 383 625 CFM carb? I was told to change the metering rods and jets out with some eddelbrock ones but they didnt say which ones. should i use the stock 600CFM or 650 CFM rods and jets from the eddy? please let me know so i can save some $$ on gas

I'm not all that familiar with the AVS, but I would start with a #89 jet front and back..I don't know what you have in there now. Your going to have to take the carb apart and see what you got in there..

My TQ guru was telling me about changing the metering rod springs to accommodated bigger cams, & I notice that Edelbrock sells a spring assortment. I think most of this is trial & error then analyze your results.

The 1406 is a 600 cfm carb. Go to edelbrocks website and you can download the carb users manual. In it you will find a chart for each carb giving you rods and jets to go leaner and richer. First thing I would do though is figure out which carb you have. You will also need to get a strip kit with the assortment of rods and jets for your carb. Summit and Jegs both sell them.

down jetting the carb could just cause it to run lean which can be dangerous , you could just have a sealing problem inside the carb causing the excess fuel to be used

even with a new (remaned carb)? wont the smaller cfm get me better gas mileage? i know the 383 is suppoesed to have a 625 CFM carb, but i have the 440 carb. I would love to have the right carb but i cant find one with the CAS.

Changing the metering rods have no effect on CFM, just rate/ratio of fuel to air. To change CFM you have to change carbs.

 :iagree:

Like I said above download the owners manual it will explain how the carbs work, If the carb you have is an AVS or PERFORMER, both of which use the same rods and jets, you can pull the rods and jets out of the one you have and refer to the charts in the owners manual to go 1 step leaner or richer but you can't change the cfm.
