convert again
« on: February 07, 2007 - 09:57:57 PM »
aw right...so I finally have the car holding all of her fluids in(coolant/oil/gasoline) and running really good :burnout:

She starts right up when cold and hot..... if she hasn't been off long.

But if I drive her and then leave her set for a half hour and try and start her up....it's crank crank no start city !
Should I being pumping the gas a few times before cranking 'cuz the gas boiled away?

Or is it the dreaded Vapor lock? I have the N95 Ca. emission lines and cannister.
Shouldn't that prevent it?

The black canister in the engine bay?  Not on a '70-71.

Got it, does the car have headers on it?  Sounds like a heat soak problem.

I figured it was a heat soak problem as well.

How old it the starter?

Is it the original style or the newer mini-starter?

Could still be heat soak considering the quality of todays fuel.  What happens if you hold the accelorator a 1/4 of the way down and try to start it?

starter cranks fine.
Is this heat soak different from vapor lock?

Haven't tried starting it that way right off the bat. Is that the cure for the "heat soak"?

Search for Heat soak on this site only turns up this thread? is that a starter malady?

Basically it boils the fuel out of the lines.  Just suggested holding the accelerator down because that what the factory suggests.

I would pull the intake & install the FEl Pro 1215 intake gasket to keep a lot of the heat out of the intake

so it's "boiling" the bowl dry? is that why my garage smells so "gassy" when I pull in?

didn't these cars start ok when new without that modification to the intake?
