InSAnE Fuel Question - Will this work?

Here is my newest BrAInStOrM - I currently have a new gastank in the car and have the Idea to put a small fuel cell in the trunk on the left side to offset some of the battery weight on the right as well....why you ask?

Well what I want to do is be able to run 110 octane out of the fuel cell on command...and here is how I think I can do it...
Run another seperate electric fuel pump/fuel line and filter out of the fuel cell up to the regulator, at the bottom of the fuel pressure regulator (inlet) have a y block setup in reverse so the 2 fuel lines plumb into 1 line which runs into the bottom of the regulator, now have each fuel pump ran on a toggle switch so when i run 93 octane that fuel pump is on drawing fuel out of the stock gas tank and when i wanna run the 110 octane turn of the 93 octane fuel pump and turn on the 110 octane fuel pump drawing race fuel out of the fuel cell....make sense  :stirpot: I know the ricers have some sort of setup like this and I think mine will work....

Nomatter what gas you wanna use, you proberbly just fill the gas into the other tank/cell.. :clueless: :stirpot:

you need a check valve of some sort to prevent filling the high octane tank with low octane fuel , other then that should be no prob

Seems to me like you're building a mousetrap for no reason than you have the time. Are you going to have an engine that runs on race fuel ,but only carry enough fuel for 5 miles of driving? Are you going to keep topping it off because it will evaporate awefully fast. Will you be wiring in an adjustable timing control to take advantage of the better fuel? IN other words...Drink more.,..it will clear you head of these little ideas...lol. :bigsmile:

my plans are to run on the 93 mostly but if i want to switch over to the race gas at the trak or some street duty use.... :working:

The idea would work with a check valve like Chryco said, but I'm still wondering why go through all that trouble?  What is the specs on the engine, does it require 110 to run? and you just get by with the 93 with retarded timing?  Are you wanting to run the 110 thinking you'll get more power on tap?  Whatever you do, you'd need to change your timing to make full use of the 110 octane.  Perhaps just use a high quality octane boost.  I think Mek had recomended a true octane booster once in a thread.

MSD does make a module that allows you to advance / retard the timing from inside the car....

Why don't you just use the same pump for both.  Use a soleniod to switch between the two tanks and use the same pump.  Cheaper anyways.

I have an extra electrc holley fuel pump..just want an extra one just in case the other ever kicked out...

While the idea sounds interesting enough, I don't think it is very practical.  If you build an engine with the compression/cam combo set up to run on pump gas, I am not sure the slight increase in octane and timing would offset the extra weight/complexity of the extra fuel tank, pump, lines etc.   Seems to me if the engine is built to run well on pump gas, extra octane won't do much to help the HP.  If it were mine, I would build it for pump gas and dump some quality octane booster in it when the summer days are hot just to help it run a little cooler and not ping. That is how my 775 horse Hemi is set up, and that's how I do it in the summer. This is the best octane booster available.  It has TEL (tetraethyl lead---the good stuff) in it.    :2cents:      :cooldancing:

When you open the link, click the "more info" button near the bottom and it gives all that kind of information.   It is a little pricey, but a little less than 2 quarts lasted me all summer.....  A little bit goes a long way...

One bottle lasted me a driving season. It all depends on how much more octane you desire. I was only looking for 2 points(95), but with you looking to get 110, you will go thru this quicker.

Have you priced racing gas lately?   This additive is WAY cheaper than buying racing fuel by the gallon.............    :2cents:    :grinyes:   :ylsuper:   :cooldancing:
