2003/2004 SVT Cobra

What do you think about 2003/2004 SVT Cobras with 4.6 supercharged engine? For me it is the only ford I like :bigsmile:

Have you ever driven it? It looks like It is a very fast car that also handles good...independent rear suspension and that stuff.

MY friend had a black SVT convertable , I was in it but never drove it , it was not torquey & had nothing for power below 2500 RPM , it was ok , he has since sold it

03/04 Cobras are wicked....one of the few new Fords that I would buy. In stock form they are high 12 second cars and who doesnt love the whine? They can be easily modded to get much more then the '390' hp that came from the factory. With under 1500 in mods (pulley, ported blower, cai) they are very capable of 11s. With an upgraded blower (whipple/kennebell) or turbo setup 10s are possible. The stock block is one of the strongest engines ever offered from any factory. The transmission is pretty strong and the only real complaint that some people have is the IRS which isnt so friendly for bracket racing, but for the street it is stout enough. The biggest complaint I have is that they are still mustangs and I live in the middle of Ford country so there are tons of mustangs around here, but I still want one. Dont test drive one until you can afford to it because once you do one full throttle run chances are you will fall in love...

The 03 and 04 cobras are refered to as Terminators. I think it even says that on the valve covers if I'm not mistaken. THey are insanely fast, and have independant rear suspension as well. Stock good for high 12's.

At the time they were the fastest factory Ford that rolled off the assembly line. While not being a Ford or a mustang fan, I love them. You just have to appreciate it and if you don't you should at least respect it if you come across one while racing or bragging about how fast you are.

It is legendary already. People are going to be talkng about the 03-04 Cobra like they talk about the 61 Impala 409, Buick GN T-types, and yes, even Hemi 'cudas. And out of all those I would put my money on the horse because at some point it's not about which car you like the most, it's about which one is engineered better and faster.

Yes, the weak link in the SVT line up of Mustangs was the IRS. You can find them easily because many folks convert to a solid axle.

Looks nice, not sure how it would run though. 4.6L V8? 5L at the least I would have thought.  :-\
Fords, Windsors anyhow sound bloody grunty as and the Aussie version at least pull hard........

I quite like them but not sure if I'd buy one. That photo on the bottom right looks cool.
Look past the badge....some guys talk them down on that alone, obviously not drivers or car people.

Impressive to be sure but I don't like the fact that there are 100 gazillion other mustangs out there that all look about the same. While driving down the blvd you can almost count on seeing one every couple of miles. Nice but not for me.

I'm in no way saying you are not a car guy, but, when there is a hot performance version of a particular model, car guys tend to notice. I would never mistake an SVT for your avg. V-6er. The hood, front fascia, wing, the RUMBLE,etc. When a car guy sees two next to eachother, the lesser one mearly resembles the perfomance model. I don't even notice Mustangs except for the SVT's. You don't see one every couple of miles.
All the cars out there with V-6's justifies the grounds for having a V-8 option. Without selling those units they wouldn't make enough to keep the platform. It is so with the Mustang, will be with the new Camaro, and probably won't be with the new Challenger. I can see a V-8 only option for the Chally and it is going to be more expensive than if there was a 6/8 option. How many Mustangs are bought just for grad gifts, more fuell effecient than a GT, affordability. Ask the Mustang GT and SVT fans if they appreciate paying 28K vs. 38K for the car. That is made possible by all the people that want one but settle for a 6'er.
It should be the same way with Chally as well. I would rather see 100 gazillion of them and be able to pay 10-15K less for the beefed up version than if it were a V8 only platform.

I hear ya and appreciate what you are saying but it's not for me. The money is an issue with me too but if the new Challenger were mass produced for a lot less money for the past 40 years they'd be in every driveway and that takes away the uniqueness of it. I know the Cobra isn't cheap by any means but it's brothers and sisters are in comparison. The whole reason the mustang has been around so long is it's a good car for the money. And yes, you can see a difference from the V6 versions but still, too many out there for my taste. I don't hate them, nor would I hate the Challenger if I saw one version or the other on the freeway every couple of miles, but I probably wouldn't really want one so much then.  :thumbsup:

my neighbour has a black '04 Cobra SVT but it was done up by a company in Florida whose name begins with 'S' and darned if I can remember it!!  He swapped out the supercharger, put in bigger injectors, fuel lines/pump, new exhaust etc..

It has just over 700 RW HP!!  I wouldn't own one, myself, and would rather do up a new Chally when they come out, but no matter what your allegiance, you can't ignore 700 ponies comin' off the balonies!

by far (for that body style) the best out there. I was a mechanic at ford and got to drive a couple and they were quick.  :burnout: but as for the handling, i would take the SVT focus over the mustang any day. that thing handles better than anything i have ever driven. if you get a shaky chill then your passenger is sitting in your lap.  :lol2:

I've owned several late model mustangs, including a 97 Cobra convertible. That stang had the 305HP DOHC motor without the blower. Pretty decent car, not excessively fast, IIRC they ran high 13's out of the box. Those supercharged cars are pretty expensive, a nice ragtop will set you back 28-30K. My wife wants a stang ragtop in white, so I'll be looking for a cobra ragtop...though i'll probably settle for the non-blower type to keep the $$ down.

They have a showroom in Irvine CA, where the laser cut a 2006 Mustang in half down the middle, driver side passenger side, it's real cool looking at a car perfectly cut in half.

I talked with the manager, and they are planning on cutting another one horizontally
