Wiring ... wiring...wiring
« on: February 11, 2007 - 02:35:50 PM »
 :pullinghair:

So I'm finally done with the guage install.  I left my stock non-rallye guages in place, but added oil pressure, volts, and water temp.  Also did a bunch of wiring fixes (thanks whoever had this car before me...you really know how to make a mess!).  Everything looks good (no pics yet, take my word for it), but there is a small mystery.

As I'm tucking wires up into the space above where the radio will eventually reside, I find a green wire and a black wire.  Both cut/taped off.  They disappear towards the passenger side of the dash.  I'm curious what these could be.  Any guesses?

I don't have a wiring diagram for a 73, but there is some relay by the glove box. Maybe for the seat belt buzzer?  :clueless: I can understand that being cut.

Nope, the buzzers work.  Same with the flashers.  I'm wondering if its related to the a/c??

ooops, sorry.  They're individual wires.  Like single threads.  They just happen to run the same direction until they disappear.  I assumed they were the same circuit as they're the same guage and length.  About a 16 guage wire.

unless it was added by some one for rear speakers the only wiring I have for those colors is the speaker, either centre or for the right side for a 3 speaker dash.

check your trunk to see if they are there- might of been for a speaker.

AC uses a light green and a dark green.

My single front speaker wires are Black & Green but I believe they were together, any evidence these were pulled apart?

The speaker wires are black and green and they come as a moulded pair of wires. However someone may have separated them by tearing them apart which is easy to do. I also have a 71 Rally dash which has the same colours for the speaker wires and also the twin wire stuff. The other possibily might be the map light but that is a light green and a dark green wire.

Next time I won't argue, just listen to the board members.  I pulled the center dash speaker, and lo and behold, the black and green wires came with it.
