Time has nothing to do with it, 2 years? The Challenger was only 4. Names don't mean too much to DC, Challenger being the only car that is based on the original. The Charger looks nothing like it, nor does this "BMW". Though the Demon had nothing on the Challengers history it's still a name from the past, no denying that.

Don't know why they can't just create a new name and leave what was in the past - in the past. You'd think a boardroom could come up with a "new" name. Even if it consists of odd-ball letters & numbers, ie: VT500  :-\

:iagree: to a degree...if you are going to dig up the name, bring with it the heritage...not even the Demon logo was used...why put an old name to a car if you are not going to tie them together...

I hate to defend the Sudo-Charger but atleast there ism a suddle widdil feelin of the originals..then you have 4 doors...

But some feel of the original should be there.  Instead we see hints (or screams) of other current lines(ok yes that might be a jab at the cross-hare)  :poopoke:

some think everything has to be new or different... why not reuse a few things...something suttle even...the Retro-Challenger could have used the original style pistol grips on a shifter...

:iagree: Most people don't know what Demon is and the car has no history to build off.  They could come out with an exact copy of a '71 Demon and there would be no reaction to it, because the Demon has no nostalgia factor.  It IS a cool name, however.

:iagree:  The Demon, yes, is a cool car from the old Mopar world but I don't think, IMO, it has had a big enough impact on the world (not just the muscle car world) that people will be like, "Oh yeah, Demon, that A-body with a 340 in it."  The average Joe won't recall it.  Challenger has had more of a following, along with the Charger name.

I also agree that from my take anyhows, that this is not a "retro" car.  It's a ground up new car not based on a early '70s A-body.  Actually that thought just scared me if they base anything but the name or looks on 30+ year old engineering....  just my 2 cents.

Maybe they'll reintroduce Carter AFB carbs on new cars????  :smilielol:  :roflsmiley:

PS-I still think Speed Demon is a cool name for a hi-po version, IMO, but it has to live up to the name.  :grinyes:

If DC does build this car and uses the name Demon I doubt that the name would help sell any, I also doubt that the percentage of the public that knows the name Demon could make a connection to this model. Therefore to reach the target consumer a more appropriate name would be called for, maybe something that begins with SR....SRZ ?.?
Anyway this thread reminds me of a conversation I had with my Dad several years ago, it had to do with some of the classic names being re-hashed and how that seemed to be a good thing for sales but more to the point the fact at that time that Oldsmobile's campaign "IT'S NOT YOUR FATHERS OLDSMOBILE" was a complete failure and that GM was dropping the line. By then there was not a single Old's that had a traditional name. I mused that thru the eighties they maybe the best selling model of all time, the Cutlass, and that if they had at least presented a model with the heritage of the Cutlass that the line might not have gone down the tubes. Point being people do connect with the past, even if just by a name, but with the flavor of that name. Positive examples Impala SS, 300M, Marauder, Mustang, Challenger, maybe the new Charger. Negative examples GTO, T-Bird.

Dan, don't get me wrong the car is nice but it looks like your typical yuppie Sunday car. Not for me that's for sure. It probably will do OK against the Pontiac & BMW thing. I guess this replacing the Crossfire.  Good Luck with it. Now where is that new Cuda.......

And the market for two-seaters is small to begin with, smaller for convertibles. How many could they possibly expect to sell? I don't buy into the whole halo car thing.  Like someone's gonna go to a dealer and say, you know, this Demon isn't practical, so let's get an Intrepid.

 :roflsmiley:

It's just a different market. It's just not for you guys. I think that our marketing/video firm did a real hum-drum job of capturing that car. You guys should have seen it in prototype/mule phase. That thing tore it up. You would be surprised how that thing bogied for being a non-turbo car.

Anyway,

I know what you like.....
