You can use any 1970 console. The 4 speed top plate is available in reproduction.

Hi Al, I am new to this as I just bought a Cuda. the guy I bought it from has a console with a cassete deck and microphone that he wants to sell. Let me know and I will ask about it. It was for an auto but I guess you can use it on the 4sp.  Rick j  badx2000@gis.net

You can use an auto console but they need to be converted to be correct. The 4-speed console has a drifferent cut on the bottom side which I believe makes room for the shifter boot. There's a guy on Ebay that sells a template for $15ish to help with the conversion. Then of course all you need is the correct top plate. Hope this helps and I hope I got it right LOL

Has anyone here ever converted one before? I would be interested in seeing or hearing how it was done.

So basically all you're doing is just cutting out the lower area it looks like near the boot area then.

So after you get it cut, do you use the repro 4 speed bracket or use the A/T bracket again? i would guess the A/T one, but then again did it change its location from where it was before?

You will need the front 4 speed console bracket.  This is a pic of an untouched factory car.

This is great help. I have been watching 4 speed consoles on e bay go for 4-500 dollars and the A/T's are much less and more common of course. I had always thought that the top plates were a different curvature for each type and that neither one would inter change. But its just the hole location thats different. Whos repro'ing the M/T top plates? Thanks for all the info. This is a good indoor project to do.
