Just Got A Phone Call From The Body Shop

I just got off the phone with Troy. He called to see if Shelby was dead set on painting the Daytona, Panther Pink with Pink Strobe Stripes. He's working with a new paint co. Electra Finish. He said if Shelby wanted he would paint it a custom paint job for the same price. It's a $6000 paint job. She can pick the color, candy colors and he will advertise on the car somewhere. A sticker or something. He wants a car to paint and knows she was planning on taking it to Carlisle. What do you think? Should she let him?

I'm not gonna spend 6 grand on the paint, $1500-2000. Troy said he would give it a 6 grand custom paint job for the same price. He wants it for advertisement for his Body Shop. And it does look good in the pic. Too bad the guy that painted it forgot to sand it. So the paint is starting to lift.

I would encourage Shelby as she makes this decision not to settle for something she is not 100% sure about.  She has an image in her mind for her car.  If Troy can make her vision come true with his paint...great.  If not, I personally would say, no thank you.  I'd want my car done my way.

If the paint is lifting your going to have to strip the paint.  It will then need priming and sealing.  $1-2K seems to good to be true but...

ps I would only paint it Panther Pink under duress too!

Having seen this car first hand, I think it looks awesome. There is some rust and paint peeling over the rear wheel well on the passenger's side, but that's it. If it were my car, I would just have that part redone... BUT it isn't my car, so here is what I'll say. Is there a candy color close to panther pink that Shelby would like? As for his advertising on the car, I would like to know just how far he would go. A bumper sticker is one thing, having his shop name across the roof is something else.

Jackie, I certainly wouldn't want my car to be a public "billboard" for anything, you mentioned a window sticker, personally that would be the absolute limt. I'm sure you will know upfront just what he has in mind, from there I'd say let your daughter decide. And if the guy goes beyond what is agreed to, hey you can always have it repainted by another shop, right?

Well, I know the offer isn't BS cause Troy and I have been friends since high school. He has done a lot of work on my Chally. And the advertisement would either be on the windshield or back of the car. Hopefully he has something close to Panther Pink . Shelby has her heart set on pink.
