Fender Tag Fastener
« on: February 12, 2007 - 08:04:59 PM »
This is a detail, but I noticed something on the 79.4 mile Cuda that was at BJ and now on Ebay for $500k. (see attachment).    The fender tag screws for this 2 tag survivor  are painted differently than I thought was original.   The front one is unpainted, while the middle and rear are painted.   I was under the understanding that on a 2 tag car the middle one was painted, and the front and rear were unpainted.

Is my understanding wrong?   Did this change between years (1970 vs. 1974)?   Is it different for a Cuda vs. Challenger?

Thanks!

Both outer screws should be bare, but I am sure there are some exceptions.

I also think that the inner fender on this car has heen repainted. Here is another photo from the auction, do you see what I see?

First of all, lota debris under the paint and there is paint on the edges of the decal.  500k for a car "restored" like that?! :screwy:

Yeah... excellent point on the additional photo.   Hard to believe someone may have got taken on this "famous" Cuda.....

Curious -- What is the indentation be to the left of the fender tag?    Which reminds me........ if a cuda/challenger has A/C, does the  a/c hose get attached by the same screw as the fender tag -- or a separate screw next to the tag..... I've seen it both ways in photos on this site and elsewhere?

Nope it is a separate screw. It is hard to see in this picture but it is there. From the picture that should be the dimple for the A/C line

Thanks Farmboy.   What color is that green?
I see you A/C line is fastened just before the fender tag; mine was attached to the fender tag -- do you know if there were variations between different years or if a difference betwee Cuda's and Challengers?

Barry - do you have any knowledge on this?

Thanks

The color is GF7.
Sorry I can't answer you on the A/C line differences, that is just the way it was on my car.(1971 Challenger R/T)
