I would put a hemi in it, but not a 426. Get a 472(?) or 528 hemi.

As N9671x2 stated, changing a 440+6 car to a hemi car and back again is much easier than doing the same conversion on any other barracuda, and its not like he wont be able to switch it back again.

A member here had a V code '71 cuda with a hemi crate engine in it and a 5-spd, and i would probably prefer that car over any true hemi car.

I seen a car in the magazine with that and it actually came from the factory with a simulated vinyl roof....painted black ???

Dont understand about the missing numbers though....If that car really is what it looks to be I would definately have Galen Govier look at it...

I apologize for  :stirpot: on the fendertag and the vinyl top listed twice!!!   I don't think anything is black and white on these cars, especially from plant to plant.   It is rare, but these cars have slipped out without body stamps.   If yours is completely sandblasted, there won't be any speculation if they are filled in or welding done in these areas.   Aside from swapping motors, were you going to restore it back to original color etc..??

Being that it's a '70, you may find a few things weird. Also, depending on it's history, the radiator support could have ben replaced the right way, making it almost impossible to tell it's not original to the car. You can't say "always" with Mopars, and 70 E bodies are even worse.

You can't hurt it so enjoy it the way you want to.  If I saw it at a car show with a Hemi and checked the VIN# and saw it was a V code car, I would still think it miles ahead of 318 clone car values.

 
Why are the dash VIN rivets wrong though, has the pad been removed?? With no body numbers visible and wrong rivets holding the VIN tag to the dash pad I would be more than a little suspect that some trickery may be involved.

I am going to have to agree with the masses here, If you want a hemi car i would either go buy a new one. Or sell the one you have and then buy a hemi car. Your 6 pack car is worth a lot of cash. More than what a hemi clone is worth and not much less than what a decent real hemi is worth. To bad you live so far outside the US, it would sell in no time here.

On the top of the cowl there are plastic vent screens.  With the passenger side vent screen removed use a mirror to look at the back side of the steel cowl that goes toward the outside of the car.  Look at the back side of the spot NZ pointed out where the number should be.  If you can't see there, feel the back part of the steel.  Are there any signs of repair or replacement of the metal.  When people delete old numbers they many times just weld them up, leaving the indentation on the back.  I have seen a smooth cowl that you could read the numbers from the back with a mirror.


As far as the car goes, I would leave it alone.
