Real V Code 440-6 to Hemi Clone?
« on: February 14, 2007 - 03:30:51 AM »
My dilemma:
Would you convert an original 1970 440-6 Cuda (BS23VOE...) to 1970 Hemi?

Not if you have the matching drive train.  You could sell what you have, buy 318 car, and have cash left over to do the hemi clone.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!!!!

Heads up on the street or occasionally at the track, in stock form, the 440-6bbl will beat the Hemi.V code is just as good, not as pricey & to some, more desirable. I prefer the 440-6bbl, but for shock & awe a Hemi can't be beat.

If it's numbers matching, which I believe it would be going by your post, I hate to say this, but, you'd be an idiot to convert it.  If you're thinking about it you obviously have money for a Hemi engine (unless you have one in the corner, in that case, buy a 318 or /6) or, sell the 6bbl, save some pennies and get a HEMI car numbers or clone.

:stirpot:   Well, I think opinions will vary a little depending on more details.   I am thinking people are against it if they are thinking you can pick up this shell and are looking to throw a hemi in it and wham bam try and flip it.

I am going to assume the opposite and think it is a nice car you have had for a long time and plan on keeping.    Then absolutely, put a hemi in it if you want.   Your not doing anything that can't easily be undone.   It is your car!!   These cars wouldn't be half as popular if in the past people didn't actually DO WHAT THEY WANTED TO WITH THEM!!!   Their popularity is based alot upon memories of them, and most often those memories were made by working on them.

Any more details/pictures?   Either way, do what YOU want and enjoy the car!!

I agree with the majority with an.........ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!  :nono:
There are more Hemi clones on the market now than true V code 6 pack cars  :swear:
Eventually, the novelty of the clones will move aside, and the true U code, and V code cars will get their deserved due
Though I'm sure clones will never go away, you get my drift.
Good luck with your decision

You make a very valid point n9671x2 (could you have picked a harder name??)

I took the post as meaning a show/driver car with the engine in and driving. But, looking back now your post is very vague. Is it a non-drivetrain car with just a "V" code VIN or? :dunno: It's your car, yes, yadda, yadda, I just can't see why you'd want a Hemi when you have the next best/better thing?

Well, my dream it has always been the Hemi and I am just wondering if it's worth to "sacrify" a 440-6...
My 440-6 is registered in the morotisation as a BS23VOB... engine, drivetrain and rear axle are # matching. not sure if body has been changed despite corret VIN and Fender Tag..

Well, I hate to be the messenger of bad news, but I believe your fendertag is not an original.   Do you know what the cowl and radiator support stampings are?   Are the 0E and your 6 numbers of vin, or 0B and the 6 numbers?

It's your car. IMO, keep all the "right" parts, and dont do anything permanent. You will only increase value there. If you think about welding anything or drilling holes, I wouldnt touch it. But I cant think base model Barracudas are easy to come by where you are. A 6bbl car including the mathcing driveline stuff, but with a hemi in place? That will never, ever lose value because of the swap.

I say make it what you want unless you're in it for the money.  #s matching is good for show and dough you better not drive it though.  If you want it to drive it then do what you want. If you want to maybe sell it someday and make a handsome profit don't change it. I agree with sell it and make what you with a 318 car as factory original cars generally don't hold a candle to owner original cars.
I may be schizophrenic,
but at least I have each other

Sorry it's V0E like in the pictures (not V0B)
Why do you think it's not original?
I can't see what are the numbers in the cowl/radiator support as body is now in rotisserie.. I'll check
