Thinking of moving-Check this out
« on: February 14, 2007 - 05:27:35 AM »
Here is a link to property taxes in all states.
Scroll down and there is a box and click on the first line that says Property Tax where does your state rank ! I moved from PA that is ranked 14th highest to South Carolina that is ranked 44th. That is also another reason I moved here.

We are 37th.

You see who is 50th?  Louisiana.  Seems like with all the hurricane troubles, maybe they should raise taxes a little and raise money to rebuild the New Orleans area instead of letting it sit untouched while waiting on the feds to pick up the slack....   Just a thought....     :cooldancing:

Am I reading the right chart? http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Taxes/Advice/TheBestAndWorstStatesForTaxes.aspx?page=2#XXX

It was the second page of the original link, but the numbers I see are different than what you guys are saying.
SC = 30 for State and 38 for all, not 44th.
LA = 11 & 37th, respectively, not 50th.

I notice GA (my home state) is absolutely average at 25th for both.  I'm not sure what Pistol Gripper  :poopoke: would make of that, since it's about as Red as a state can get, but let's not go there again.  :eek4:

A person can make what they want of these types of charts, which can be deceiving.  You need to consider that these tax rates are a percentage of income.  To be fair, you need to consider everything - Job opportunities, housing cost, real estate appreciation...

My home state of Michigan is 16th for state/local, and 19th overall.  About what I expected.
"Red" Nebraska is 6th for state/local, and drops to 22nd when you include federal.  In a similar way, "Blue" Hawaii is 5th for state/local, but drops to 17th when you include federal.  Poor Massachusetts has state/local taxes that are 28th, but when you include federal taxes, they jump to 6th!

I think it is an over-simplification to think you can draw political conclusions from this.   :2cents:
