as you can see by the pic I have a pick up tube and a return line tube...does that matter?

No, it doesn't matter. Measure between either of those, and the peg that the sending unit signal is on. You may need to remove something to get to the peg? Your unit looks different than mine, that's why I say that.

I understand that Dear pain-in-the-butt, but we are measuring resistance of the sending unit at this point. No power needed. If the resistance is too high, the fuel gauge reads nothing with the key on.

StrOkEr , some thoughts on what your doing...
   1. Is there enough fuel in the tank to register on a gauge? The stock gauges would bottom out when the power is off & come up to Empty with power on even with an empty tank but I don't know what to expect from the aftermarket gauge.
  2. Have you ever removed the sending unit to inspect? There are three basic components to a sending unit, the float that must be good & free to move, the variable resistor that the float varies to change the power level received by the gauge and the pickup tube with filter (sock). If you have never removed your sending unit for inspection this would be a good time to do so if for no other reason to make sure the sock is intact.

The resistance test Mike has explained is right on. If you have no experience using an ohmmeter I suggest you find something working that you can experiment on to familiarize yourself with to know what to expect. A speaker typically has 4 to 8 ohms resistance.

Avoiding reading 3 pages, but if it hasnt been mentioned

Use a NEW wire to the sender, not the stocker and see how you make out...

now it sounds like the sender wire/terminal is grounded.. have you pulled the sender and moved it to see if anything happens?

Ok! I gounded both the ground wire from the guage and grounded the pickup tube (both) to the negative on the battery! and the needle rises to the E on the guage...I have 5 gallons of gas in the car so it should go to 1/4 tank!  :horse:  :horse:  :horse:
I also got my fat @ss under the dash and no wires are touching each other on the back of the guage.........  :horse:

Im thinking its the sender in the tank now..............
