'03 Hemi Problems?
« on: February 14, 2007 - 06:28:18 PM »
Hi guys, has anyone else heard that the "03 hemi's are bad, or had problems with them?  Reason I'm asking is Im doing a 5.7 hemi swap into my '67 dodge, and I want to know if I should steer clear of the '03's.  Thanks

Nope for me too.

Have you checked Consumer Reports, or any place else that might list recalls?

Thanks, I'll check.  Reason I'm asking is because a few local guys have said to stay away becasue of rod/bearing problems.  So, if people all over the country havent heard, I guess these guys must be off their rockers.   :roflsmiley:

Thanks

The problems I'd heard with 03 hemi's was the valve springs breaking and then eating a valve.I'd put a good set of springs in one if I was going to use it

You might try posting this over at thehemi.com in the 5.7/6.1 Hemi forum. I'm sure you would get a definitive answer there, as ther are several members doing swaps.

I've heard they're a "little" gutless but nothing about them being prone to faults etc. :2cents:

Ditto on the valvesprings, and ditto on not knowing anything about bearing problems.  Chances are that if an '03 was gonna have spring trouble, it would have had it by now.   Still, you might want to at least get the spring pressure checked to see if they're ok.  If not, ls1 springs can be used on a hemi with good results, and they're cheap.
