The new crate one that is to be offered.

So last question, are any of the crate Hemis built in true old hemi form, or must you find an original one. I guess I am getting confused, because the Hemi name seems to be thrown around so loosely with regard to new crate motors?

From Mopar Performance there are four old school, full hemispherical head Hemis offered; 426, 472, 528, and 528 blown. These are almost identicial to the second generation 64-72 version 426 street and race Hemis. These are the most popular and most typically refered to Hemi engines. They also are very heavy weighing around 700 pounds.

The crate engines designated in liters 5.7 and 6.1 are new, pent roof Hemi designs. There also is rumors of a 392 (6.4 liter) crate motor, which is a new design. These are also modified and sold by XV motorpsorts and with time, probably a few others. Very light weight design that weighs about the same as a LA style small block (318/340/360).

There also were the first generation Hemis, all hemispherical chamber heads, 331, 354, 392, and a whole bunch more sizes that I can't recall. These came in Plymouth, Dodge, and Desoto vehicles and were also commonly used in industrial applications like drill rigs and water pump stations until the early 60s. these are real heavyweights weighing in around 800 pounds each. Ther eis also limited aftermarket support for these, but there are a few places that specialize in them.
