how do I remove paint, or what black (flat, semi, gloss) should I paint the plastic portion of the side louvers (72 Challenger).  The last genius painted them yellow (did not take the time to remove the louvers...

I use the Rust Olem puff can Satin Black.  Spray several light coats and it won't gloss.  I like it for things like this because wax won't turn it white.  It ends up with a finish very close to the original "naked" black plastic the inserts came from the factory.

what I wory about in part, is the old yellow paint peeling or the black not sticking to the yellow...but I dont know any safe way to take off the yellow paint.

There isn't a good way to get the yellow off the plastic.  I have never had trouble with the Rust Olem sticking.  Just get them real clean and dry before spraying.  One advantage of a puff can in this situation is you can have the coats go on thin.  If the plastic isn't real wet with paint the likelyhood of reaction is lowered.  Do you know what kind of paint the yellow is?  Enamel, Laquer, etc.  The Rust Olem is Enamel.

no I do not...someone sprayed the entire car yellow...but I am not paint/body guy...

I would say just try it.  Unless the yellow paint is fresh you should be fine.  You can guess at what kind of paint the yellow is by the use of different solvents.  In this case if you use light coats and space them apart you should be fine.

Should only cost $5 and some time. If you haven't ever taken the inserts off the louvers do it slow and evenly.  They will be brittle.  Post a pic and let me know how they come out.

I took the one(only had one whaen we got her) off of the 73 years ago.  It was fun, but not too bad.
