:swear: Just try to put a set of TTI header on an A-body without making the dents or bends to make the torsion bar and manual steering fit. I called TTI tech line, He told me to put a 2X4 in the back to bend it down so that the torsion bar would clear the header on the right side.  :banghead:

The only reason tti's are so expensive is greed. They could post and say something different, but I know better. I saw a post from them a year or so ago about a price increase do to steel price rising. They raised their price 100 bucks in 30 days. The increase was not big enough to add 100 bucks to every single pair of headers they built. It was just greed.
I saw this happen more then once

Actually steel are in shortage on the worlds market, Dubai and Shanghai rob the steelmarket, and prices go up. I have TTIs on my cuda, 340 p.s with ministarter. Best quality, and worth the money in my book. I agree with Carl, do it once, do it right.

Whatever you do, don't buy headers that have the suspention going trought them, you WILL get a dented header that kills HP. Good luck!  :)

I used the Schumachers for my 383 Demon.  The fit was great - no problems.  I don't know if the same would hold true for a 440.

My bodyman very  recently put tti's on his 440 rt/se had nothing but good things to say. I saw the cars from the top and the bottom, I gotta say the fit and finish was really nice.

Uh Russ, you give up on the facory manifold search :smilielol:

And I know steel prices went up, and steel mills closed too. But going up 100 bucks at a time per set of headers was just wrong. The cost wasn't that dramatic. I am not saying TTI is a bad set, I am saying just cause they cost a bunch, doesnt make them the best in my eyes.

And a few hints for some of our members is when you install your engines, sometimes you can adjust the engine in the mounts a bit. It kinda depends on how it's setting when you tighten the engine bolts and the cross member bolts. The distance from the engine mounts to the trans mount and member is enough to make a 1/2" difference in where the engine can set, which can affect tortion bars, center links, steering boxes, but russ, sometimes headers and starters just abosultely suck. A good starter will give years of faithful starts before the anger mode hits. :2thumbs:

Header tube size is a big factor for fit issues too. Myself, I love 2" or 2 1/8. So I can make bigger power. So getting headers to fit good is a big challenge no matter who builds them.

Al, what size do you think I ought to get made when I put the 517 off in the mustang?  I'm thinking either 2" or 2 1/8th.

Neil, I got 2 1/4 on my big engine with 4.5" collectors coming through the fender. It's a tube chassis car though as you know. You will probably want nothing less then 2/18 th  and a 3.5 around 34 36 inch tuned length. You may not notice a big change with collector tube add ons since you are making big cubes. I'm sure you will be launching some where in the 4500 5k range . My tq was 790 and shifting at 7200.

I was looking for you an oil pan today for your 440 mustang.  Is 4" dragster type about right with baffles? You are running dual external pickups? or single?

I'll be home in a few weeks :clapping: gonna start my 6 pk and break it in :2thumbs:

I dunno what I'll be launching at-it may be less.  Remember, this will be a pump gas motor-race gas mixed in to spray it.  I expect 1000 hp or so on the bottle, roughly 750-800 on the motor.  I may not need quite as big as your motor, but it will need some decent-sized pipe to breathe through.  I'm leaning toward 2 1/8th.  I'm thinking a single pickup.  I'm gonna need to buy a pump and external pickup setup, and a pan too.  I don't know exactly what will fit the mustang-I'll probably have to just try whatever pan I can come up with.  I know the truck pan I'm modifying will fit, the only concern is whether or not I'll be able to get enough capacity in it to work right.

Neil, you want me to donate you a roller cam to your project? You got 1? I got 3 or 4 spares. They all made between 700 and 800hp on gas. I got a good one I know you might like. It made 783 hp and 690 tq with 14.85/1 compression and a very good carb and intake. That was with 2 1/8 x 4" headman hustler race headers.  106 center gobs of power after 5k..

I'm not at the point of choosing a cam yet.  If you can get me the specs on all the cams you have available, I'd like to look them over.  No hurry at all-I may not be at the point of choosing a cam for over a year.  You know how that goes!

My TTI's arrived yesterday. I went with the coated/polished ones. I have to say, they look too good to put on. I just wanna hang them on the wall and stare at them.

I'm with our aussie friend carl too; do it once, do it right. I had been looking for a set of headers that I didn't have to drop the suspention and steering linkage and crap to put on for the 2 yrs i haven't been able to work on muh car, and must say, I nearly throw temper tantrums like an A body owner cuz all the ones ive seen including the ones currently on my car are retarded. the dude must have got em from wall-mart er something. Maybe Sears or Monkey-Wards. anywho, I almost had a heart attack when I found out they exist about 8 months ago. trying to get a set as we speak, time is just the issue.

so, I'm all for TTI. they are a bit pricey, but my theory is they are worth it with the prices our cars cost these days and the fewer and fewer that are continuing to live on. and you don't have to ding em and completely perform an about face procedure on thier appearance so they fit.
oh....... too many cars. not enuff money... not enough time....
