R/T Challenger rare???
« on: September 29, 2003 - 05:31:34 AM »
Just wanted to know if any of you guys had a 1970 727 column shift bench seat R/T? If not how rare do you think they would be? I'm not going Galen either  >:( I ask this to you because you guys get to go to car shows with heaps of Mopars unlike me, So any help would be greatly appreciated  :)

NZ - I can't say that I've seen more than  a couple- total, in several years of attending shows.
Have seen several with column shift but bucket seats.
 A friend has a 70 Barracuda, column/ bench but is a 318 car.
Plus probably one of the ones I saw was a 383 car.
Glad to hear you'll be staying stock resto.
Probably all the more rare in a RHD conversion.

I owned a 70 R/T charger 440  it had the column shift with tich toc tach, and bucket seats - but with "buddy seat- armrest" in between the buckets.  You don't see too many like that; but I've definitely seen more R/T chargers set up like that than R/T Challengers set up like yours.  Then again, no 383 RT Chargers either.

Cheers for the input/info 74MOPAR, Mine is the bench seat with fold down armrest in the middle. I forgot to mention in my "newbie hello" that it is also Left hook. Some other options include: A01 = light package, A62 = Rallye instument group, H51 = Air conditionin w/Heater, P31 = Power windows, V1X = Full Vinyl roof. Thats good to hear what you know because as you said you have been to a few shows and seen hardly any.  :) Yeah I will be staying stock except for things that I can change back to stock and that can't be seen from the outside eg: Headers and a Viscus fan package. But thats it Oo and of course an after market single CD headunit  ;D

Mopar collectors guide a few years back had a black and white, bench seat, colum shift Hemi Cuda.  I would not say I have seen a lot of Challengers with columns, I have seen lots more B-bodys with this set up.  Superbirds/Chargers/RR/ ect ect.

Seams most I have seen were slapsticks, this is definently rarer than a slapstick, but I have not seen a break down. :) If you happen to find something, Please post it.

Some guy called Kevin in a place called At-water? Finailly got back here are the numbers:  ;D All 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T Hardtops, 383, 440, 440+6 and the HEMI, The total production of column shift cars was 9.6% Now I have to find out how many still exsist if thats even possible?  ??? :'( Oh well at least I have some Numbers!  ;D Also does this sound right to you: 129 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 440 Magnum 727's were made?? Because I saw somewhere that 1886 Autos were made for that same option car? Must be a typing era, This was not the same guy above this is someone different. Also that Cuda your saw was as rare as hens teeth there are only 6 known T/A Cuda's with Column shift/Bench seat option, and a HEMI  :'( Also one of those Cuda's has buckets?? What a waste oh well each to there own.

 ;) Hey NZ 440RT,
Sounds like a great car you got there. I have to question something though. I could be wrong, but I thought the "light package" was only available on base models and SE Challengers.

You know what I like most about the light package? Those turn signal indicators on the front fenders. You don't see those often. Mine are still working, knock on wood.

Hey Mike.  I really like the turn signals on the fenders too.   I wish mine had them.  Last month at a show we saw 4 Challengers with them.  Very nice!!

REPOMAN: Did you, thats good to know.Any info or how many other cars you have seen; Challenger R/T, Hrdtop, 383,440,440+6,HEMI before? Was yours a benchseat with folding armrest in the middle or bucket seats? I've only seen 1 of any of the above optioned cars on google or any search engine, TV, Magazines, books etc So I wouldn't mind knowing how many still exsist and I wonder if yours still pounds the pavement?  ;)

For what it's worth...

My 70 Challenger has column shift with a bench seat with the fold down arm rest.  Only downside is that it was a 318 car.  It'll be an R/T clone when done though.
