Dumb Electrical Question
« on: February 20, 2007 - 06:20:44 PM »
OK... I'm not very smart about this stuff.... so please be gentle.   :1zhelp:

I'm in the middle of "buffing up" my Challenger.  I'm doing the grunt work and my "resto expert" is doing the complicated stuff.    So, as I clean and repaint various items from the engine bay (wiper motor, heater blower, etc.) is it ok to "check out" if they are working after I've cleaned them up by by hooking them directly to a battery?   What is the risk of damange?

Thanks for any and all advice!

I have done this with no ill effects and except for gauges I think everything runs on 12volts.
If you are going to do much of this you may want to make a test rig with longer wires to keep sparks away from the battery, alligator clips an in-line fuse and a momentary switch to give you better control.

You can also use a 12volt car battery charger....so you dont have to lug a 20lb battery around with you.
