My new orange with black/orange interior 71 Cuda
« on: February 21, 2007 - 06:31:00 AM »
My dream Cuda arrived last night:

http://www.dextersclassics.com/cars/1971cuda_008.htm

This car was restored in Michigan in the mid 90's by a guy in a wheelchair and his friends.  It (along with several other cars) appeared on the cover of, and in, Mopar Muscle in 1997.  It also took third place at the Mopar Nats in 1996 for E Body modified.

While not the original color combo, this is EXACTLY the color scheme I would have done; hemi orange, black/orange interior, dual painted mirrors, painted grille and valence insert, black billboard, no vinyl top or spoilers.  I couldn't believe it when I saw it for sale.  I would have preferred a 4-speed and AC, but I don't think I could have got any closer without doing it myself.

Great looking car. I'm kind of partial to 71's myself. The only thing I would do if I owned the car is to remove the original deck lid, find another deck lid, paint it to match and add a gull wing from FPAP. I've always thought that the billboards show so much better when paired with the gull wing.
Great looking car though with or without the spoiler. Congrats.

Cuda Guy:

There were actually two different orange interiors in 1971.  One is the standard vinyl seats all in orange.  The other is what I have - orange vinyl with the cloth inserts.  With either orange interior the rest of the interior is just like it would be if the interior were black; black carpet, door panels, seat backs, dash, headliner, etc...  Just the seat covers are orange.  My car currently has a burnt orange carpet -it should be black.

If you have never seen the black and orange in person, it is really cool.  The cloth is actually black and orange checkerborad.  In the pics it washes out and looks gray or brown, but up close it is a psychedelic trip.  Every time I get in I start hearing "In-a-gadda-da-vida," "White Rabbit," or "Sunshine Of Your Love" in my head.....
