I would start with posting as much of the VIN number as you are comfortable with posting.

Since i havent bought it yet im just looking at the posiblites(odds on it), go for total orginal or doing my Dreamcar.... :cooldancing:

A regular 383 i know it would be like totally impossible, but 383 Magnums are more saved.

It's always worth having the original engine with a factory performance car.  I would look for it and consider it a bonus to find it.  With all the registries going maybe we should start one with block VINs and see who could be connected?

I have NO idea how you would find it. My car was originally a 383 car, that got upgraded to a 440. I just think most people didn't think much of the 383 back then, and most are probably 6 feet under by now.  :'(

Matchups can and do happen.  :bigsmile:

If there is a registry for your make and model, you should register. I know of close to 100 blocks out of their 1970 Hamtramck cars right now.

There is also a place on this site to list your Vin and whether you are looking for the engine, trans or both. You can also list the ones you have.

Here is the link;

It does not seem to get used much.....   :dunno:

Best of luck!

First work on finding a date correct 383 block.   After that, there are ways to make it numbers matching.   Shhhhhh.

...about 15 years ago a friend of mine traced the engine to his '68 HEMI Road Runner back to the guy the original owner sold the engine to...it was for a boat.....after several more owners he found out the HEMI was in a tow truck, still doing daily duty a few miles from his house.....he was able to purchase the original HEMI out of the tow truck (he almost had to buy the entire vehicle) and now the car and engine are together again...

...it does happen, but the chances are rare....original owner/dealer info or tracing owners back as far as you can would be a good start also....find out where the engine went in 197? or when ever it was replaced....don't get your hopes too high...

I'm in the same boat. I havee a 70 R/T SE that has a 71 383 in it. I have been looking for my engine since I bought my car in 2003. My car has had many owners over the years. Most of them, not suprisingly, know each other, and the car is well known in the area that they live. I have tracked the engine back to a guy who was friends with all of the owners in the area. He thinks he has my engine. I just need to go out to Missouri and look through his 20 plus barns full of Mopar stuff to find it. Maybe its in one of the barns, maybe it is not , but it will be fun sorting through his stuff to find my block.  So I think it is possible. You just have to jar the memories of the previous owners. They sometimes remember things and call you back months later after you have spoken with them. Good Luck !
