341 Hemi Desoto
« on: February 21, 2007 - 06:22:30 PM »
As you all may know by now, I have a 340 Challenger that is currently being restored.  This car was purchased by me to be driven.  Knowing nothing about engine building I must ask those of you in the know will the 341 Desoto fit ?  If so is it difficult finding parts?

It will fit with difficulty.  I have done it with a 392 in a Challenger.  The exhaust is really tight to the power steering box.  The engine is heavier than a 440. I would go with a 383, 440, or a version of the 426 Hemi.

Wow!  I did not know the 341 was heavier than the 440.  What about getting the block and building it to hold on to.  Is investing in a 341 a waste of money?

IMO yes.  Use a more modern B or RB engine.

:iagree: the old 392 & 354 are not too bad to get parts for but the others are going to be very difficult to get parts for & all old hemis are tough to fit ,so I would also build a good 440

My thoughts on the older ( pre 392 ) Hemis is that they would be very cool in a period hot rod.  An old A-Bone or T-Bucket.  Too often they end up with Chebbie small blocks in them.  Why on earth build something unusual and put a common as dirt powerplant in it ?
