Anyone use Eastwood header paint before? Is it good?
« on: February 22, 2007 - 09:38:18 AM »
Not sure where to post this question so I figured I'd just put it here.  If it needs to be moved please do.

I am looking at buying the silver Hi-Temp header pain from Eastwood.  Wondering if it it'll just burn or flake off. Any special prep work needed to make it work well?

Thanks,
Hookem

I used the eastwood stuff on a set of headers. I prepped them exactly like they said. I sandblasted them and washed them off with acetone before applying the paint. I broke them in just like the instructions said too. End result - they started to peel in a week. They look 10 times better then rusted headers, but give it some more time and Im sure they will rust like before. I dont know what I did wrong considering I followed the instructions perfectly. The only thing I can think of is maybe I didnt put it on thick enough...in either event, I probably wouldnt use it again. I have heard of some people having success with the stuff, I just am not one of them.

If you are referring to sending your headers to Jet-Hot, I found that after I would have paid for shipping my old rusty guys up there, the cost would be about $60 less than just buying a new set from them that was already ceramic coated inside and out. That's the route I went. Hedman's at something like $415 ceramic coated to my door. I noticed a MAJOR heat reduction in the passenger's department. I no longer got a hot-foot on long drives.  :ylsuper:

www.jet-hot.com , You can check it out online or call their 800 #
I have the Hooker Super Comp's #5115 on my Cuda. I think Summit & Jeg's have them for the same price new. If you need new headers , then yes you should just buy them from Jet-Hot. If not it.s only a phone call to see what kind of deal they have. Painting Headers is not the way to go..
