Thoughts on painting my Challenger a non-stock color?
« on: February 23, 2007 - 12:19:51 PM »
I have been having trouble finding a shade of B5 blue that I acutally like... so now I am thinking I may consider painting it a non-stock color...
The car is originally a 318 Base model car and is now a 440 - Shaker R/T "clone".... I am trying to make her as nice as I can but want to be completely happy with the color I paint her. I don't want to shoot myself in the foot - so what do you guys think? Resale Value?

I was thinking:

Royal Sapphire Pearl '97 (Toyota Supra) Stunning...but overkill?
Anthracite Metallic '94 (Toyota Supra and my all-time fav)
Aero Blue Pearl Metallic '06 (Chrysler Crossfire) Very nice color..

Opinions welcome!

Im gonna say that because its a clone the value shouldnt change, especially if the original color isnt popular and if the new color is something appealing. I also say go for whatever you want because it is your car so do what you want to it. My mom's car is Aero blue pearl and I like it a lot, especially when the sun hits it. I think I know what the royal sapphire pearl color is and if it is the color I am thinking of, then I like it too. I have no idea what the anthracite metallic color is, so I cant comment on that one. Without knowing the anthracite color, my vote is for aero blue right now  Seeing that you want a high impact blue, you might also want to look into the blue that the last prowler was painted...

That prowler was called High Voltage Pearl Metallic ... and was a one off color. There is no paint code for it.... at least that I can find... I saw that color too.

the first pic is of RSP and the second is Anthracite...

I appreciate the comment Bigs.  All I know is it's PPG paint. Radiance II, wineberry over violet. In the sun light, it's quite something to look at. I can't imagine what someone spent on the paint job.

I like seeing cars that are different-- they can stand out from the crowd. After looking at so many plum crazy-sublime-ect cars having one of a non mopar color could still look pretty cool and not hurt the resale value.

As far as blues go I always liked the blue on crcarch's car.  For reds as mentioned before MEK's car is very cool!

Yupe, Mine was originally B5-Blue and after looking at the shade coming through (in perfect nick) & seeing photos etc I just couldn't bring myself to liking it, as much as I tried, it was just to dull & did nothing for the car IMO. Mine was numbers matching too. But, I got it White & she has been White since about 78 so I continued her little NZ history.

I vote for either the one you like best or Winchester to be different and it's a rocking colour!

To me, the body lines of the Challenger screams for a metallic color.  The way the sun light bounces around on top of the fenders and roof line, then again off of the body line.  MEK's car is a perfect example of this.  Personally, I would go with one of the blue's.  Light bonces off of it better to me.  But, I have never been a big fan of grey.  Just me though.

Go for it.

My Chally's original FC7.  It's just a 318 car, so I can get away w/a non-OEM color.

I'm so sick of seeing FC7 everywhere.  I feel like going crazy, like maybe going w/some kind of pearl orange or something.

Like this:

'70 318-auto Chally 'vert
'71 383-auto 'Cuda 'vert (sold)
06 300c SRT8
04 2500 QCLB 4x4 HO

I think that color is awsome, and since that car has such protruding straight lines(very similar) to the Challenger,it shadow's really nice. How about with a burnt orange interior and shadow the longitude on the base coat with an airbrush and then clear the whole thing.

I think that it is your car and you have to be happy with it - Hell with resale. There aren't many of us here that are doing this for the purpose of reselling our cars. Personally I love the color of Mike's car and would even consider darker like a Black Cherry.
