Brings back scary hurting haunting memories. And is also a fear of my evening/morning driving through the states.

We were in a honda civic, on vacation, when a deer jumped from the side of the road and landed on the hood,windshield and top. Glass all over the place. Minor cuts on us. No bad injuries to us, but killed the deer. I fear this could happen again. It is no fun at all.

Deer get smoked on the highways every day here in Eastern Nebraska. There's carcases laying everywhere on the roadsides. You definitely have to keep your eyes open. I know a guy who totaled his 55 chebby last year by hitting one. I've hit a couple over the years, but none caused any injuries to me although it did do some damage to my vehicles.

Deer are one reason I'm selling my motorcycle.  They get hit by the scores around here.  When I was still at the fire department, we ran a call where a guy on a Gold Wing hit a deer.  There were witnesses.  The deer jumped, but only high enough to catch the bike's windshield.  The windshield broke off from the fairing and came back and almost totally decapitated the driver of the bike.  He was DRT.  The deer was stunned, but managed to get it's wits back and run into the woods.  Pretty rough deal......

In northern Alberta we have to deal with mule deer and moose.  These are very large animals and plentiful (and not any smarter than then the deer down south).  If you go far enough north buffalo still run wild too.  I really try to stay off of the highways at night - too many close calls.

Yupe, depends though. I'm usually a good judge of character and will talk to anyone or anything at a pub including the cigarette machines and the toilet washing basin (twice). If they are nice looking ladies, definitely. If it's some mongrol with leathers a duffel bag and tats....he can walk. My cousin and I usually pick them up on road trips just for a laugh....either try and scare the crap out of them by going fast (Cheech & Chong) or just have a yarn.

Don't have to be carefully down here as compared to over there. I don't think I would in the US.

I don't blame you NZ I don't pick up people either.  As for deer, we have plenty down here!  I got a nice Challenger R/T because a deer jumped out and ran into the drivers door and almost came in the window, well my friend gave me a good deal on the car and buoght a truck.  I can't understand these people against hunting.  It's meant to be that way, it's fun and relaxing, and puts meat on the table, and somewhat controls the deer population.  They are wanting to take the wolf off the endangered list, one of their BS excuses are that wolves kill too many deer and elk...  Wolves don't kill THAT MANY, and they have to eat too, and usually don't kill people's livestock, they like to hunt wild game in the woods, mostly smaller game too.  Not many years ago the wolf almost got wiped out, that's why they're on endangered list.  I don't think they have multiplyed enough to take them off, especially seeing how people think they're bad.  Wolves are where dogs came from!  I have a saying from long ago, dogs are good, people are bad.
