    The link you posted is not relevant, as it involves harming people who threaten your safety, whereas this discussion seems to be focusing on harming people who are on your land.

    I have no problem with harming people who threaten others safety.

    If some guy is coming at you with a knife, you have no choice but to shoot him (unless of course you have some other, safer means of protecting yourself)

    On a side note, has anyone ever seen the texas chainsaw massacre?
    Technically the main characters (the victims) were trespassing, so does that mean leatherface was completely within his rights to hack them up with a chainsaw?

    Laws vary greatly state to state.I think here in NH I need to prove my life was threatended before using deadly force,other states are less restrictive.
    It seems pretty simple to most of us to respect others property but we are having this debate b/c there are a few members who seem to think it`s OK not to.
    I`m not sure of the tresspassing laws but common sense says you walk up to the front door to knock you should be pretty safe-snoop around without the owners consent and you are asking to get hurt.   :2cents:

    Gee, yet another thread about this topic. But ya know what's weird, in order to get permission, you got to tresspass to knock on the guy's door. So who do you ask to get permission to ask for permission. Yeh, I know that is a dumb thesis, but honestly so are some of the other logic herein IMO. There are a lot of strange people in this world and you never really know what someone will do or react. Use some logic, be safe, and stay alive.     Heres a scenario.

    You are in the backyard grinding away on some piece of metal on your car. The sidewalk goes right by the fence. some nosy old man hears it and peers over the fence at you. Would you consider that tresspassing? Casing the joint? or Prowling? Hes just a nosy old man with nothing to do and time on his hands. What do you do?

    I think that each scenario warrants a decision on whether you consider it tresspassing or not.

    To me it's simple. You see a car that interests you, you go to the front door and knock.
    If they answer the door...you talk to them about the car.
    If they don't answer the door you leave without looking at the car.
    Leaving a note with your name and # would be ok also.
    Did this last week, talked with the nice lady. Told the cuda wasn't for sale even though it's been sittin' for years.
    Also learned they had just sold two Challengers out of their backyard to one guy last month :banghead:
