Who's got a 4speed?
« on: February 24, 2007 - 08:15:57 PM »
Do you like it better than an automatic? I was thinking of maybe setting one of my cars up with one. What got me started on this, I went with a friend to work on his grandfathers truck. He keeps this thing out in an old hay barn. Well, gramps used to race a 70 roadrunner back in the day and collected replacement parts when he came accross them. Years went by and he sold the car sometime in the late 70's but kept the parts in his barn, under a tarp I found six 4 speed transmittions. Said I can have what ever I want for getting his truck running. I may snag one of them 4 speeds. Seems like alot of work to put one in, is it worth it? Thanks

Heck yeah its worth it.  :burnout:  If you drive a lot in traffic, then they're not as fun of course. Theres always an open road nearby.

You may have a small fortune in parts also.

Sheesh!! 6?!? :eek7: Grab them all mate!! You should definitely do the conversion. There is a stack of info here to do the conversion and if you get stuck answers are only a post away. I have never minded the traffic thing that people complain about. Leave it in first and let her idle along, can get frustrating but eh....no dramas.

I'd convert Lucy but it should have been done during resto, I was just happy with the car.
Autos are awesome too, straight line speed and cruise and in most cases quicker than their 3 pedal relations.

Keep us posted.

Keisler offers a lot of the pedals and linkage too I believe. Though some of that may be specific to their 5 speed setups.

If you can only have one tranny, count the input shaft splines and try to get a tranny with 18 splines also called corse spline :2thumbs:

I really enjoy shifting my pistol grip shifter. It gives you a different power feeling shifting through the gears. The shifter in my Cuda looks pretty da** good to.
