What is the best radiator cap pressure  to use for a street car?

Probably 16lb should work fine for most of us.

Is there a benefit to using lower pressure caps? What would happen if you used higher pressure caps(I was told that they should only be used for racing)?

the higher the pressure the more temp is needed to boil or turn the coolant to vapor , any time you get boiling in the heads the effectivness of the cooling drops dramatically

each 1lb you go higher you raise the boiling point 3degrees.
