Ralley Tach Wiring Question
« on: October 02, 2003 - 06:51:09 PM »
I know the tach gets hooked up to the neg. - side of the coil but my question is which wire is it? There is a light tan wire that come out the same loom as the pos. and neg leads for the coil that is not hooked up. is that the Wire?? I don't want to just try it cause i don't want to burn anything up. If you know for sure that is the wire i will try it. But there is only those 3 wires that come out there. the other 2 go to the coil + & - ??
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks
Steve

;) If you want to play it safe, you could do what I did. I ran a wire from the "-" side of the coil into the dash gauges. I kind of hid it behind the harness. Be sure to use wire for engine compartments though, you don't want any meltdowns.

Steve- checked a 73 barracuda manual- it doesn't show any tan wires anywhere in the engine area.

if yours had a tach- it should be a grey wire that then goes to a grommet in the firewall by the regular wires- this then goes to the tach.

it was always a separte grey wire.

maybe someone else ran the tan wire- try to follow it to where ever it goes.

Those 3 wires are all taped together + & - for the coil and the thought to be tan wire. looks like a factory taping job. but i peeled the tape back and it looks grey. the end is also a male spade connector. that is the wire that goes to the neg. side then????
thanks steve

HI sTEVE- haven't checked back here for awhile- yes that is the - tach wire.

and it goes to the spade connection on the back of the tach.

there should be a red wire for power when the key is on.
