Can we create a Blacklist VIN registry?
« on: February 28, 2007 - 12:20:15 PM »
 :clueless:

I don't know what is involved, but it seems like we should create a blacklist VIN registry- Cars that have since been scrapped, burned, cut up, gone missing....

The sole intent of the blacklist VIN registry is to prevent selling illegitimate cars.

I know Barry lists what he can on his registry, but maybe we should try to do more.

You thoughts?

It already exists. You can register a scrap or parted-out car as well.

Treefrog, there is the following box on the online register-form:
"Check this box only if this is an update to your latest registry"

Simply update with the online registry-form (same as a new registration), check above box and write your cars registry number in the comments box.
I will update the registry with your new information.

However, the old information will stay there as well (forever). So the history of the car will be there all the time.

You can even register a car that was stolen and never recovered. Simply write the information in the comments box: When and where it was stolen, plus the other
important infos. This could protect someone from buying a stolen car, you never know. Or the car might show up some day.

This refers to your Vin and fendertag being sold without a title.

As in someone might try to illigally sell a clean VIN and title off the car and sell it to someone with a slightly less valuable  car with a "dirty" VIN

Hence the term -rebody.

This registry is a way of tracking more complete cars and cars without a title or cars that were cut up for parts/sections.

You are doing nothing wrong by parting your car out. Someone may use that term like - "they parted that car out for the roof , the cowl/firewall and the framerails....and crushed the rest"
