Good point.  At least it is a real Ferrari. The 400i or the Mondial are much better Ferraris' in the same price range.  The 308's were junk.  The problem with these old Ferraris' is the maintainance.  Unless you want to spend the money on them the Mopar is by far a better value.  If I were to buy an import sports car in this range I would go with a Boxster S that I could drive regularly without the problems and worries of the exotic.

 :iagree:

I'd get a boxster S if i was looking into a sports car...you can pick one up in the low 20's in excellent condition and fairly low miles.

I've spoken with several 308 owners...the early fuel injected cars are the worst, even ferrari specialists dont want to work on them, the quattrovalve cars are better, but still no picnic. Always wanted a 308, but after those talks, I'm staying away!

That kit car does not look right, the porportions of that car are all messed up.

Maybe not in the same league but if you want exotic looks but the reliability of a Honda, go NSX.

I've thought about this many times.  You can find '91s for around $20k in very nice shape.

With kit cars, like Old's Cool said, the registration is a pain in the butt unless you find someone who has gone down that path.  What is it?  A Fiero or Lambo?  Are all the emmissions components still on it?  In cases of Shelby Cobra kit cars, depending on the state it might be registered as a '65 or you might have to call it a 2007 (if built in 2007) and thus have catalytic converters and pass emmissions.  :faint:

Also getting parts can be a pain.  Is the company that made the kit still in existence?  (In the case of Ferrari kit cars, Enzo put an end to them so your lucky if you can find one buzzing around!  Carroll Shelby almost did that with Cobras, although you can't call them that in his book!)  Finding body parts in case of an accident may be difficult and finding someone to do the work may be tough.

Again, not raining on your parade but just some facts to consider.

 :puke: Stupid Fiero's
Stop playing with toys and get yourself a Mustang and a Factory 5 Cobra kit or another "Ground up" kit. The original Countach's were crappy anyway. You can only roll the window down 4 inches!!! I have sat in one and in many Cobra replicas and there is no question as to wich one would make you pee your pants first.
Sory, but there is a point when someone just has to tell you that the kit car your looking at is God awful and you should look elsewhere. You must be nuts to have been wanting that thing for this long.

Okay, I got an email today from a guy that has offered to sell me a 99 Plymouth Prowler in mint condition for less than the Countach replica. You guys may be right about the replica vs. the real thing.
Something to think about. At least I think the boys at Dodge still work on Prowlers.
We shall see what my better half thinks.

Though it's equipped with the same V-6 as the Caravan, I'd go with the Prowler over the repli-car any day.

Prowler = appreciate
Poor Quality Kit = depreciate

As for the prowler only having a Sixer, it's a pretty good one. They have potential. Glad to see you have a change of mind.

If you can buy Plymouth Prowler in mint condition for less than the Countach replica there is no question here.  :clueless:  Go for the Prowler and enjoy. You will have a vert with a lot better looks and I'll bet more fun to drive. If it should ever need service you can get it done anywhere. Sorry but to me this is a no brainer!   :2cents:

Actually Prowlers don't have a mini van V-6. They all come with the 3.5L motors(LH car), the later ones (I beleive it's 99 and later)are the higher hp version at 253hp. We put a supercharger on my boss's 99. They don't go very good but they are a nice cruiser than can be fixed an any Chrysler dealer because most of the parts were borrowed from other car lines.

:iagree:  I've always loved Shelby Cobras and the kits are very nice!  Factory Five has a really nice kit for the money.

On this topic, here's some pics and video clips of my friends ERA replica.  Has a Shelby aluminum 427 block, unpacked sidepipes, and 650hp.
