Valve cover ID

How do you tell the '70 HP valve covers apart from the others? I have a set on my '70 now which has a raised circle in the front of the left side cover. a guy said they are for a '71 and the ones I need look the same but no raised circle , which I have a set but I'm not sure if he's right so I hate to swap them .

sounds correct to me but unless you are doing a perfect resto on a valuable car it may not really matter

Thanks,  I guess old habits die hard, I figure if I try to make everything 100% correct I might get it 90% correct if I'm lucky.

I recently went on a search for 70 covers and the concensus seems to be that the raised circle ones were for 71 and up.

That said, I have seen a fair number of 70 six-pack cars with these supposed 71 covers on them and can't believe that they were all swapped for the incorrect covers for some reason.

I'm thinking that they were a 71 part, but that maybe they made it onto the production lines toward the end of 70...

Heh. That didn't clear up anything. :-)
