bumper blues

The car is a '72, it's been in the body shop (wrecked at least once) a couple times since new.  Apparenty along the way a '70-71 bumper (and matching brackets) were installed; the installed rear bumper appears to be correct, with jack slots but is dented.  I also have a recromed rear one that is the right one.

I do want original front and rear, I intend to show it in a "stock" class.  The re-chromed front was advertised as a '72-'73 'Cuda bumper but now that I have it in hand I find that it is apparently for a Challenger   
So, I am back to square one on the front with TWO wrong bumpers and one set of wrong ('70-'71) brackets.  I guess I will contact the seller and hopfully they have a correct one to swap it out.  Then I will be looking for the correct front brackets.

You mention the bumper gaurds, I too like the skinny ones but I thought the fat (and rather ugly) ones came out in '73?  My '72 parts book shows skinny ones.

Your on the right track now!  72's were the only year with round taillights that had small bumper guards and no filler strips. They used 70-71(2) bumper brackets...they are shorter.

Okay, but is it not true that the '72 'Cuda front bumper's mounting holes are locted differently than the '70-'71?  My old (wrong) bumper mounts with 4 bolts accross the face of the bumper.  I thought the '72 has 2 mounting holes in the face and 2 on top, making '70-'71 brackets usless.

I knew you'd ask that...    I don't know the 72 stuff that good.  I don't know what will work with what.We need to find both bracket styles and find what you need. I'd start looking for really nice pics of the front bumpers on 72's    I'll show ya what I got...  I gotta' go to storage.

Sounds like a plan.  I've searched out '72 'Cudas and am lucky to find pics of them period let alone detailed shots of their front bumpers or brackets   

I'm thinking maybe because of the smaller bumper guards they had compared to '73-'74s, the bumpers may be '72 ONLY due to possible guard mounting hole differences.


The vendor has agreed to send me another bumper but I have asked for pics up front to be sure it IS for a '72

Here's some pics of 73-4 stuff.  The outer braces stick out way farther than the 70-2's. Y.O. shows a 72' specific front bumper...B1372BF...257 bucks.  I took out the bolts so the holes showed.
