Dome light Trouble.
« on: March 07, 2007 - 06:06:27 AM »
Hi Folks,

The dome light in my '73 Cuda isn't working so I decided to pull out the globe and take a look. The globe is a single contact type and is faulty. I got a new globe and went to install it but then noticed that the dome socket has two contacts. So, I have the wrong globe. I believe that the correct one is a 1004 Double Contact - not sure of the watts though.

Since I didn't have a globe I decided to use my multimeter and see what the two contacts were all about.
To my surprise each contact has +12VDC on it - all the time - that is with the doors open or closed and with the instrument light going on when opening the doors and turning off after the delay timer switches off.

Why would I have +12VDC on the Pink and Yellow wires going to dome light all the time? ???

Thanks in advance, Ed.

PINK IS +12 VOLTS
YELLOW IS GROUND SWITCHED

Do you have a key in the buzzer option??? if so then 12 volts is back feeding thru the buzzer!

Thanks guys.

I got the correct globe and it is working as it should.

I think I got confused because I kept thinking that the body of the globe went to GROUND - it's obvious now that it doesn't!

71 DEPUTY - I don't think I have the key-in buzzer. The only buzzer I've found so far is for the seat belts.

Thanks again and stayed tuned for more questions - in another hour it will be me verses the heater/demister/air con... :roflsmiley:

check your ing. switch wiring harness by the connectors below the dash- two small red wires are for the key in the buzzer!  buzzer may not be installed but wiring is usually there!!!
