On the front of the Challenger hoods, sometimes is the name - D O D G E -
Sometimes - the Dodge icon/ triangel..

It all depends on year...options...model...etc...etc......etc.  I've seen just about every hood with the combination of all the emblems you listed on them.  TO say for sure what is correct I'd need a emblem guru to chime in.  All I know for sure is that 1971 flat hoods and shaker hoods had the dodge triad on the front.  Other than that :dunno:

To the best of my knowledge the 71 is the only year without the Dodge letters on the hood.  In 70 the letters were on the hood.  To save money and make 1 emblem instead of 5, the triad was used in 71 and the word Dodge was moved to the grille.  Most people said "What the heck is that?" when the triad came out.  So the letters Dodge once again returned to the hood for 72.

I did some research on it using the original sales brochures, old photos of untouched cars, etc.  It appears that 70 & 71 used the triad on flat hoods.  72-74 used the Dodge letters on the flat hoods. 70 & 71 shaker hoods used the triad.  70 & 72-74 performance or magnum hood used the Dodge letters.  71 performance or magnum hood was without letters and R/T was available in a large decal for the front of the hood or the hood could be left blank.

:iagree:  Nice job, Challenger6pak!  (Although I'm no expert!)

"The hood , sometimes go all the way to the front, and sometimes ends about 4" from the frontend.."

That may have been a non stock or even a Barracuda hood on a Challenger and it didn't have the front header panel.  Just a guess as the Barracuda hoods supposedly fits on a Challenger but you need that 4" header panel.

The Barracuda hood does bolt and latch on a Challenger.  I used to do this to keep a Challenger parts car motor dry.  The cowl and inner fenders are the same between the two cars so everything lines up.  I used to drive a Challenger around with the AAR hood and filler panel.  It made everyone go  :clueless:

That must've looked pretty cool, though.  I like the AAR hoods!

That is the 1971 wide molding package.  Dodge used to offer different packages during the year to bolster sales. This particular option was part of the Spring (season) package for the 71 Challenger.  Super blue I wish I had a pic.  The Challenger was a 70; Go Mango in color.  The hood and fender tops were blacked out like the AAR.  It had the go wing and a large homemade variation of the 73 strobe stripe both in black. The stripe was the same as the 73 Rallye in the left of the pic.

It will fit on any 71 Challenger, if that's what you are asking. I think it looks great, but there is no way to make it work on my 70. At least, not any way that would look nice.  :grinno:
