transmission leak
« on: March 11, 2007 - 02:40:05 PM »
I saw some fluid had been leaking from under  the car looked like from transmission, I noticed that the cover was missing from the lower part of the bellhousing. Could my leak be from that area? Did not look like the pan was leaking. It is an automatic . Thanks Bill

If the leak is in front of the tranny, near the engine... then I suspect the torque converter seal. I've been down that road.   :pullinghair:

That plate is just to keep debris out from getting stuck up in the converter teeth/bellhousing. Will not directly result in a leak. There is a 'front pump seal' that is up inside there that could be leaking down. You have cooler lines, dipstick tube, kickdown lever/shift linkage seals, and the pan rail itself. You'll need to do some poking around to find the source.

When I first bought my Challenger, I also had a tranny leak that drove me crazy - couldn't figure out where it was leaking. Turned out to be the bushing where the linkage goes into the transmission. You might want to check that out.
