Preparing for the next calender
« on: March 11, 2007 - 07:20:33 PM »
I had the Challenger out today and I got a ton (100+) of pics.  I am not an expert with the camera so I need your opinions.  I am posting a few photos which I thought were the best and I was hoping you would give me your honest thoughts.  I am open for suggestions to improve on them, so don't hold back.

Thanks.

JB's, nice shots of the Challenger, BTW how did your Dad make out with those engine problems?

I have some tips. Always turn the front wheels so that the camera sees the front wheel instead of the tire tread.

Use the flash, even on bright days for "fill in" light. See the shadow line across the front plate? The flash can help. It also softens the harsh shadows in the grille and under the car.

Always use the available light to your advantage, park the car so that the light is at your back when taking the photo.

Practice, practice, practice as well, play with different lighting, close ups and see what works for you.

It looks like you have some great backgrounds to use, and a great subject as well.

Out of the photos, I'd say the first two look good. (scenery-wise)  What you want to do next time is get the car centered nicely within the photo and as Barry mentioned keep the wheels turned towards the camera so you get that nice effect.  Other than those couple suggestions, the photos look nice.

Okay, thanks for the ideas.  :2thumbs:

Ended up being a plug missing under the oil filter and not getting enough oil.  The crank had to be turned and get new bearings, but everything else was okay.  He has it running now.

Jacksboys, those pics look excellent.   :2thumbs:

One thing though, maybe its just me.  Im referring to the second pic, when a pic is taken of a challenger at or below grille level, I dont think those look right.  Maybe its just me?  I think it looks like the car is sagging.  Not blasting your car, its beautiful.

Just giving you my  :2cents:

To make your car stand out more try setting the background much further away from the car.

...follow Barrys directions on lighting/flash and wheel posing....

...from a magazines standpoint
..............never photograph a car sitting on grass
..............lose the Year One stickers
..............I always carry a small sharp tool to remove gravel from the tire treads (you didn't have any I could see) and a few damp rags to clean bugs off the car and the tires (the parts that show in the shot)
..............avoid too much green grass/trees in the background of shots.....the green looks dark, isn't pretty and doesn't look good with most color cars, especially green, yellow and black....keep the green to a minimum

.....over all, I thought your pictures were very good other than a few small lighting issues and the wheel positioning could have been better in a couple of shots...good photographs must have a pleasing color contrast, good posing and good lighting....I get my best shots on overcast days, no sun glare

As per below, not always the case.
Needed perhaps a touch more flash for the rear but as long as I know what it's missing it's not a major.

I agree with everything else Daytona said. Never, ever, park on grass. You don't drive on it so don't take photos on it. Find unique backdrops and don't be afraid to tilt the camera and create "drama" shots.

Thanks for the ideas.

Also with the YearOne sticker, it is hiding some bad scratches in the windshield, so I need something there to take your eyes off the scratches.  Any suggestions?
