Paint removal on aluminum?

Hi guys,

I picked up an old Mr. Gasket Street Scoop and it originally was polished aluminum but the previous owner painted it blue.

Is there an easy way to remove the paint without hurting/ scratching the aluminum finish?  Some of the paint can be taken off with my finger nail so it really isn't bonded on too well.

I've heard of people using Easy Off oven cleaner.  Would this be appropriate to use in this case?

And what would be the best way to polish the aluminum?  Can you just use polishing compound?

I have used paint remover, although not on aluminum, that I picked up at Adavance Auto Parts, made by Mar-Hyde called Tal Strip that is made for aircraft & is recomended for use on aluminum.

How about polishing it?  Easy off?  Anybody have any ideas?

I'd just use some carnuba wax on it to polish the alum

I wouldn't use "Easy Off" on aluminum. That is pretty harsh stuff, and I'm sure it would tarnish the finish. Steel yes, aluminum no.

I have alot of experience at this...     I'd use a chemical stripper.    Then a product called "neverdull" It's a polishing compound that's in a wad.   wipe this on and scrub.   remove with clean rag,polishing the surface.   sand out any big scratches.   it really works on all metals

I don't waste anything!  I got the scoop from a guy in Dedham off craigslist.  I love that site!  It's a little darker than the hood.  The kids don't want me to take off the stars!!!    Thanks again for the hood!
